Waitlist updates?

Thought I’d start a new thread to follow up on waitlist applicants to see if anyone is made an offer. Was at Airband last night watching my boys and so wish my DD was attending as well next year.

Wishing your D the best of luck. I am a little surprised that with several sons at UD that your D was waitlisted (I would guess it depends on the overall level of competition and the major your D applied to-who knows, maybe this might still improve her chances as we still don’t know for sure if the waitlist is ranked or not ). Things have been so strange this year it really is difficult to accurately predict what will happen this year. Two years ago, the last year they took substantial numbers off the wait list, students did begin to hear right after May 1. After all, if they have spaces available, I’m sure they would like to fill them up ASAP. I would suspect that we should see what this direction this is going to go in by the beginning of next week. Good luck to all those on the waitlist still waiting to hear.

How have they notified kids in the past regarding waitlist spots - by phone or email? We’re in a similar situation-have a daughter who is a sophomore st UD and our senior was accepted for spring/wait listed for fall.

In past years it primarily had been done by portal change/e-mail. I don’t recall phone calls but perhaps this did occur. I would suspect that if any of the 50 students already accepted into the DC Program are offered acceptance for the Fall that UD would want to find out from these students ASAP if they were going to accept the Fall admission as there is also a large waitlist for the DC Program. I wonder how many of these students would decide to stay in the DC Program if they were offered Fall admission. Again, good luck to all those still waiting.

My daughter was offered DC but chose not to enroll in that program. We did accept spring admission - I would hope that enrolling in DC wouldn’t give you a priority on the wait list-but you never know considering how the process has been this year.

A poster on another thread on this board did report that UD Admissions was asked about whether the Fall wait list placement was effected by choosing the DC Program and/or Spring admission. The reported response was no. Assuming this is accurate unfortunately we still don’t know for sure if the Fall waitlist is ranked based upon other factors other than major applied to. Historically certain highly competitive majors (i.e. Nursing, Chemical Engineering and some others) tended to have relatively few students accepted in off the wait list. It is interesting to me that no one has posted on any threads on the UD board that they were offered waitlist placement without also being offered the other two options. I would tend to find this hard to believe as being the case but who knows. Good luck.

My DD is wait list only - not offered DC program or spring admit. I think her chances are pretty low with all the other students who were offered one of the other 2 options, unfortunately.

Looking back at the UD in DC Program description it looks like this offer was not necessarily given to all majors (although it does not specify which ones). However, I don’t know if the Spring admit offer was given to any students without the DC offer. Although one might infer that students who were offered Spring admission would be given priority for Fall admission; again, according to the poster I previously mentioned above, that they were informed by UD Admission’s (at least those also given the DC offer as well) that this was not a factor in Fall waitlist placement. So perhaps there still may be some hope. I wish your D the best of luck.

This has been a very frustrating process. I have never seen such an inefficient admissions office. I hope they will reach out to these kids this week and just get it over with good or bad so the kids can move on and make their decisions. Good luck to everyone’s children! Please post if you are liberated from the wait list, or if not, where your child is heading.

I am a waitlist applicant. I applied in October and visited April of 2014. It’s always been my first choice of school. I had mediocre SAT scores but a high GPA. I was not offered the DC program, just a spot on the Fall waitlist. My guidance counselor and I have both tried to contact the admissions office. There has been two phone calls and four emails- I have not heard back at all. Are they not accepting many people off of the waitlist this year? I’ve been waiting over 6 months and its nothing short of frustrating- even a no would be better than waiting at this point.

My son has been waitlisted for fall and was offered DC and Spring waitlist. He was accepted to Penn State - UP (Summer admit) in late January and immediately sent in a deposit though UDel was his top choice (couldn’t count on UDel then. Or now). He thought about DC for a couple days, sent in a deposit and subsequently learned it filled quickly and he was shut out. So at this point he’s assuming he will not get into UDel for the fall (he isn’t considering a spring start) and is planning on attending New Student Orientation at University Park in two weeks. If by the off-chance UDel fall comes through, then he has a decision to make. My guess is as each day passes he becomes more emotionally committed to Penn State…but UDel has always been his dream school. So we shall see. A sincere good luck to those who are still emotionally committed to UDel … hopefully you have a good back-up plan in place if it doesn’t come through.

Does anyone know if they have begun notifying yet? My daughter’s status still is listed as active wait list. Still hoping!

Nothing yet for my DD. The online chat has been set at “leave a message” for past couple of days, so maybe they are taking time to sort through everything. I kind of think we will hear one way or the other on Friday.

Has anyone called? I am trying to be patient…

We are trying to be patient as well, so we don’t bombard the admissions office, maybe one person could volunteer to call and post an update here so we all have the information. Is anyone interested/have a strong desire to call? If not, I would be happy too.

Go for it @ProudNYMomma

Gee, thanks! I know what questions I want to ask but what are yours? Just want be sure they are the same.

LOL! I feel like I have been a pest. I called Monday morning and asked if switching to University Studies as a major might increase my D’s chances of getting off the waiting list and they said “a change of major will not help at this point.” The only question I have is whether they are going to be accepting anyone from the waiting list, and if so, when they will find out. Very stressful week here with waiting to hear and prom.

OK, I called and the person that answered stated, “they are in the process of determining if anyone will be offered a spot from the wait list”. Everyone will be notified on May 15th and she said they will be notified via email.

I was really hoping the kids would hear sooner than this :frowning:

Thanks for calling - wish they had said something more optimistic like they expected to offer several students a spot. My D has to take her math placement test by May 15th for St Joe’s, so I guess she will need to do that.
