Waitlist??

Saw someone asking on another thread. Has Bucknell gone to waitlist?

I saw this on a CC 2012 waitlist thread - looks like it will be mid-May before any decisions are made.

Has anyone else received this email ?

"Greetings from the Office of Admissions at Bucknell University. I would like to share with you an update on admissions for the Class of 2016 and any possible Wait List activity. Please understand that by getting this message, you are still under consideration for Bucknell’s Class of 2016.

We are in the process of reviewing the entire class, and the admissions committee is assessing the possible need to use the Wait List. You can expect an update from us regarding the Class of 2016 by May 15, 2012.

As before, you only need to contact us if you have questions. Please let us know at admissions@bucknell.edu if your plans no longer include Bucknell. Thanks for your patience and your continued interest in Bucknell University.

@NYGmen I received the email from Bucknell yesterday.

does it seem as though they will be taking a lot of kids off the waitlist this year? what are people’s stats/majors? i know they accept based on availability in each department.

also does anyone know about typical aid offered for waitlisted students at bucknell?

s got same message

Originally they said they would consider offering funds if available. I guess we will wait and see.

Does this mean that they will be turning to the wait list this year?

sourpanda, you won’t hear until 5/15 whether Bucknell will go to their waitlist.

@ 911C2S: That e-mail was really annoying… I wish they would just decide if they are going to their waitlist or not and then just tell us… It’s like Febuary/March all over again… Arghh~

Bucknell is probably waiting a few more weeks to see if any deposited students decide to matriculate elsewhere if they are pulled off a waitlist from a preferred school (ie IVY or other top LAC). This could open up a few additional spots at Bucknell - FWIW last year they only accepted 19 of 914 on the WL. Good luck!

Sure. The student app/admit pool is in flux momentarily and they want to keep qualified candidates “on the line” in the event they are needed to fill declined spots. This is totally about BU, not an attempt to be nice or considerate. They know their market.

Wow. What do you have against Bucknell, anyway? It’s not like it’s the only school to use a waitlist like this.

Huh?

Is every candidate still on the list or have they narrowed it down somewhat? Like, did anyone get an email yesterday saying they could not be offered admission at all?

I guess no waitlist offers? Bucknell did not go to waitlist this year?

this is the email that i got so i am making the inference that the waitlist is open until june 1st, when all decisions will be made:

"Good afternoon from Bucknell! I am writing with a short update about our wait list.

We will not make any wait list offers over the next two weeks. Instead, we will be watching closely the wait list activity at Bucknell’s peer institutions. If any of those institutions make significant use of their own wait lists, candidates who have deposited to Bucknell may opt out of their commitment to us.

Right now, we expect to enroll exactly 925 first-year students, our original target. If there will be a great number of “de-commits” (more than the few we normally expect), Bucknell will use the wait list.

On June 1, either offers will be made to selected wait list candidates, or we will close the wait list. Not much changes in June or July in the college admission landscape, so the admissions committee will be able to make a final decision on the first day of June."

As noted earlier … see post #11. Nothing personal nor institutional. It’s just capitalism at work. Whatever, whoever it takes to get to that magic number 925.
