Waitlist news?

i have a really good friend who is hoping to get accepted from the waitlist. could anyone please post if they hear any news be it good or not so good. thank you

someone on the facebook group said they got off the waitlist, so it's possible

thank you breckw........then i guess they started making selections.

oh dear...i'm getting nervous. Do you know how many people and placed on and accepted from the wait list?

A lot and a few.

Hi, I called yesterday and was told to expect an email within 30 minutes. The following arrived:

Good day!

I write to provide you a status report on our wait list situation. As of today, it appears that we will not be able to offer any additional places in Bucknell's Class of 2012 to students on our wait list for the next few weeks. The current commitments we have received meet our enrollment goals; due to a higher than expected yield on our offers, we were able to offer only a few positions to students on our wait list. We are aware, however, that wait list activity at other institutions may impact our current numbers. We are prepared to make a definite statement about the status of our wait list by mid-June.

If you wish to remain on Bucknell's wait list:
I realize that you are presently making alternative plans. However, if your interest in Bucknell remains high and you wish to remain on our wait list for the next few weeks, please visit our website at Class of 2012 Wait List || Bucknell University to reconfirm your interest.

If you no longer wish to remain on Bucknell's wait list:
If you no longer wish to hold a position on our wait list, please visit Class of 2012 Wait List || Bucknell University to indicate that your plans to attend another institution have solidified.

Consistent with the information my S received when he called yesterday.

This will likely be athletes and other "needs" of the U who'll possibly see any daylight. Good luck to all.

I am not a very religious person, but I believe times like these call for much praying.

I got a letter a couple days ago saying that they have not even started looking at the wait list because they have enough people to fill their freshmen class, and that they cannot offer me admission. o well.

Sorry to hear that. I don't think the admissions office was expecting such an increase in yield this year. What are your plans for the fall?

Got the same letter Nudder...I'll be off to GW, assuming BC doesn't let me off their waitlist.

I am on the waiting list to BC and Oberlin, though I heard Oberlin hasn't gone to their waiting list either. If I don't get into either of those schools, then I'm off to University of Pittsburgh. It was kind of a disappointment to not get in any of these places, but I'm excited about Pitt.

I'm thinking, because of last years threads, that there won't be much movement off of the waitlist.

Time to sail away to greener pastures. I really did hope to have Bucknell as a choice.

Good luck to everyone.

i would be VERY surprised if there were not at least SOME wait list movement this year. how much? its anybodys guess. but since bucknell over-enrolled last year admissions already had to be careful about not over-admitting students for this fall. then came the market crash, which effectively sent the schools carefully developed yield prediction formulas straight to the trash can.

to add some numbers:

bucknell anticipated a yield of approximately 38.5% last year. yield was actually just north of 40%, causing an over-enrolled freshmen class (35 extra students). were the formulas off last year or was the over-enrollment an anomoly?

with that question in mind, what would you have predicted yield to be this year KNOWING that you could not over-enroll? 41%? 42%?

with that question in mind, how much to you anticipate yield to drop this year due to the economy? not at all? 2%? 4%?

and, in the end, how many students who were planning on enrolling to you expect to get off OTHER wait lists? how many students will decide this summer that they simply cant afford the school? how many current students will do the same?

...

lots of moving targets, which is why you are seeing so many qualified students who demonstrated relatively little interest being wait listed. admissions simply cant afford to admit someone very unlikely to enroll and then have him or her... enroll. it is also why you are likely to see bucknell going to its wait list. if you target for 875, your predictions can be 50 students (2% in yield terms) off without fear of over-enrollment, a level of miscalculation that is probably somewhat unlikely once you remove early decision students from the numbers.

thats where i suspect the target was this year, so i would anticipate somewhere between 20 and 80 students, and maybe as many as 100, coming off this years wait list.

But how do they choose? By major, by ranking them? I am an ED deferral - hopefully they still remember they are my #1....do you think EDs are considered first?

If you look to the common data set for the year 2007-2008 Bucknell says that they took only 14 students off of the waitlist out of the 1046 that were on it. That is 1.4% being moved off. Not great odds that year.

On the CDS they also explain that they rank the list. Maybe you should call or e-mail to see where you stand.

I agree that this year is very different. Good Luck.

I removed my name from the wait list, I hope one of you guys who got wait listed and really wants to go gets it.

best of luck people

thanks, looks like luck is what I need now, since hard work only got me this far.

Hopefully after all the ivies release their decisions this week, spaces will open up for us “2nd best” applicants.

I asked to go on their waitlist immediately. Got an email from them recently (yesterday?) that said I’d hear back around May 5th if they intend to offer me a spot. UGH!!

Good luck everybody!!!
