I am an international student and got waitlisted at Haverford. I was wondering what is the probability of being accepted, is there any way to get off the list, are there other waitlisted students here, etc? :)

I have not yet seen a news release describing the most recent batch of Haverford admissions. However here are the data for the last 10 years’ of admissions waitlists:

Year…wl offered…wl accepted…admitted from wl
2013…769…290…10
2012…869…350…3
2011…811…370…0
2010…785…375…1
2009…725…311…13
2008…756…333…3
2007…732…305…10
2006…718…312…54
2005…610…169…28
2004…831…206…1

You can see that chances for admission are usually slim but there have been some years where they are more hopeful. Certainly you have no chance of admission if you choose to decline the waitlist.

If you do choose to remain on the waitlist, you should notify the admissions office of your intention and re-affirm your strong interest in Haverford. Indeed, if you can do so honestly, let the admissions office know that Haverford is you first choice and that you will attend if offered. (Honor dictates that you should say it is you first choice only if true, but you can certainly let any school that has offered you waitlist status, first choice or not, that you have a strong interest if you choose to accept the status.) Make sure you get confirmation of your status after accepting and follow-up if you do not get confirmation. While you are on the waitlist you can follow-up with occasional affirmations (I suggest every one or two weeks–don’t get annoying) of your continued interest as well as any relevant accomplishments or recognition you achieve while you are waiting. If eventually you choose to accept another offer of admission make sure to let all your waitlists know you wish to be removed.

Thank you very much for the info @Descartesz
