Does anyone know (best from experience) when more spots are usually opened for a class? I'm currently on the waitlist for math 32A (Lec 2) and was wondering if there is still a chance for them to open more spots for us waitlisted folks.

I'm probably just paranoid but it's definitely more comforting if you know you're IN the class =P Thanks for any input!

i believe all the spots in all the classes are open (orientation is already over, right?) but, you should be fine... i'm sure a number of people will drop within the first week or so of classes...

Well Orientation 111 just started around today so they haven't picked their classes yet (not like it will make a big difference..)

Do so many people drop within the first week that most people on the waitlist will be able to join? And why do they usually drop? Thanks again ckings!!

some of the reasons that i've heard for people dropping during the first week include signing up for too many classes, didn't like the professor, didn't like the class and other things similar to those.

also, most professors are able to hand out PTE numbers to waitlisted students so that they can enroll in the class past the enrollment cap. but you should definitely talk to your professor the first day of class and find out how he/she will deal with the students on the waitlist.

Alright, well I got a message from my orientation counselor today, and for anyone else who is worrying about getting their classes (for the waitlisters):

They won't add any more spots to the lecture but they will probably allow all people in off the waitlists, or at least that's the plan. So hang in there!

This is regarding Math 32A and it sounds like good news =)

That is good to hear- I'm 10th on the waitlist (it JUST opened today) for Poli Sci 139, and was hoping to be able to add. I was going to go on the first day anyway, so being on the WL will give me a leg up, yeah?

Not necessarily. Being wait-listed means you're still obliged to attend your chosen lecture/discussion and submit homework assignments like a fully enrolled student, since you're likely going to end up as one anyways. There's no actual "waiting" involved when it comes to your participation, despite the misleading name. You won't be behind at all.
