waitlist

should i be the slightest bit hopeful of receiving an acceptance letter after being initially deferred and then waitlisted? i've heard from everyone that "NO one" gets off the umich waitlist, but how realistic is that statement?

Most years they take no one off the waitlist (and the waitlist is huge).

Four weeks ago I would have said students on the waitlist should be guardedly optimistic. I did not believe yield could come anywhere near what last year's yield was, and I sincerely hoped U-M would go to the waitlist. It has some great students on it. There are students on the waitlist that would have been shoo-ins in any other year.

However. Yield looks pretty strong. I would advise waitlisted students to emotionally commit to the college where they deposited.

If a bunch of top-tier schools go to their waitlist, things could change (U-M students would take those offers if extended) but as of right now, I'm not optimistic about the waitlist.

what's the difference between extended wailtlist and waitlist?
or are they the same ?

They are the same.
