Waitlist

^ Yes, its a real torture to have to wait for so long. I wish that they at least send some occasional updates so that we know what is going on. I am glad you are wishing us good luck - there have been more than one accepted students who said things like “deal with it” or “get over it”, and “the fact is that we got in and you did not.” Hearing these types of insensitive comments is making things work.

I thought that in the waitlist emails they said that if you do not hear from them by June 1please assume the class of 2013 is complete. So did anyone hear anything? Because otherwise how do you know you’re still being considered?

^Well, I just called the admission office and told them about that June 1 deadline. In regards to the waitlist the woman there said that they are " still working on it." When I asked whether it would be throughout June, she said that the waitlist is a “gray area” and they know nothing for sure. She said that one year someone was taken off the waitlist in AUGUST ! So, they dont seem to be hurrying much. This is going to make me go crazy… waiting whole summer.

standford09 - out of curiosity, what college did you put down your deposit at?

Don’t be too quick to place blame on the Adcoms, stanford09. They can only admit someone off of the WL if and when someone else dis-enrolls, or takes a gap year.

I agree w/ Nonie- Good luck to all of you. And please check out my suggestions to make yourself stand out to admissions.

Today I recieved an email from Emory and it offered me the conditional transfer acceptance in 2010~On condition that I got an GPA no lower than 3.0 in my first year at college!

Congrats !!!

yes, congrats. Are you considering the offer? Where did you deposit?

Congratulations daphnesun!

Congratulations Daphnesun. Its nice that you told us about this. This is the first time I hear something like this. I did not know any school would promise place in 2010 in advance. Where did you put your deposit at ?

Cornell University has something similar called the Guaranteed Transfer and Transfer Option.

Interesting… very interesting.

How…? 10char

@daphnesun:

did they also offer you an extended waitlist option?

yes,they did!

I deposit at University of Washington in Seattle. But I’m still considering about the transfer offer that Emory offered.I think Atlanta is awful compared to Seattle…

I heard it rains too much in Seattle. True?
Also, Emory>UW-Seattle so why compare cities?

^^Perhaps for some people, location is an important selection criteria for college. Many would agree that Columbia > most other colleges academically, but not all want to live in NYC, so they won’t even apply to Columbia. OTOH, NYU receives a gazillion apps solely bcos it is in NYC.

I also received mail today from Emory. It started like tihs

“Thank you for your continued interest in Emory. I regret to inform you that our Fall 2009 freshman class is now full. However, we are pleased to offer you a place on our extended waitlist for this fall and if no seats become available, conditional transfer acceptance to Emory for Fall 2010”

Basically, I think it’s a GT. It says to maintain a 3.2 or above and to be in good standing (no criminal activity?)

However, i was planning on applying as a transfer anyway after my freshman year at my safety school. Does anyone know if agreeing to the transfer now is binding?
