No, I don’t think so, because once you accept the spot, it gives you the option to go back and change your decision.

Pianist- I wonder if they actually accepted any deferrees.

Really, Butternut? That’s a shame. Although I gotta say, it hurts a lot less the second time (at least for me). The initial reading still sucked, but I think I’m over it…

Good luck to everyone who’s still waiting, whether it’s for UChicago or any other school. :)

I just got waitlisted… ugh.

i got waitlisted as well! when they say submitting grades do they mean something like the final report of the common app or just an updated transcript?

Deferred then waitlisted… Ah. I might accept waitlist just to see what happens, does that detract from the chances of others who actually want to go to UC? I guess it probably does, so maybe I won’t.

waitlisted 2020 sat but 5.06 gpa and 13 ap classes by the time i graduate and 5 pages of extra currics. darn it.

International applicant here. I got waitlisted as well. Anyone got any idea how the waitlist works for us int’ls? This might sound stupid but is there a seperate pool on the waitlist for US citizens and int’ls? And would providing info on a major major EC be extraneous?

Second waitlist…just checked GWU and got waitlisted there. Even though I got into Wash U and a large scholarship at UMiami.

Well, my friend got deferred then waitlisted at UC, but into WIlliams and Dartmouth (last year) so…whatever.

Waitlisted… for the third time. This is getting so depressing. :(

Do I send final grade reports to all of my waitlisted schools? My second semester grades kind of suck…

Yeah, no worries Mh475. UChicago is self-selective. If it makes you feel any better, I was accepted to SCS at Carnegie Mellon, which has a lower acceptance rate, but waitlisted at UC. UC’s high acceptance rates are misleading.

My first waitlist le sigh

I’ve gotten accepted to 3 schools so far but Chicago was kinda one of my top choices…oh well. Guess we’ll see.

I got waitlisted too. I don’t even know if I want to stay on the list because even if it is/was my first choice, I’m kind of over it. I realized I can’t appease these admissions officers. I have a 4.0, all advanced classes, and 35 ACT. Okay ECs, pretty excellent essays, and a killer interview. I couldn’t have done more really, and I don’t want to wait until the end of June! Now I’m worried about my other schools that I thought were going to be harder than Chicago.

Waitlisted!

Quick Stats:

Rank: 1/600
SAT: 2300
SAT-II: 2290
17 AP classes and straight A’s.
Very involved EC’s.

I was pretty disappointed, but I wasn’t at all surprised given UChicago’s selectivity for fit and the lack of time I spent on the essay. I have to say that it does have me scared for the other colleges that I applied to since they’re all arguably more selective.

damn, this is scary…

Accepting a place on the waitlist isn’t binding at all. It’s only an indication that you want them to consider you if they look to admit additional people from the waitlist. You can withdraw from the waitlist any time. If you get an offer of admission, you will have some period of time (two weeks? a month?), and of course a financial aid offer, to decide whether to accept it, although in many cases you will be contacted informally first to determine whether you are disposed to accept it or ambivalent, and if the latter then the offer never comes. (As to the latter, I am not certain whether Chicago does that, but it is a common, if not consistent, practice at many other colleges.)

One of the reasons why so many people get waitlisted is that the waitlist melts off very quickly, as people decide that they are perfectly happy with their other options. While I think lots of people accept a place on the waitlist, lots withdraw before anything happens, and it’s not a given at all that someone on the waitlist will accept an offer if one is made. For the waitlist to serve its purpose – providing a pool of qualified applicants with a wide range of qualities who would accept an offer if made in June or July – it has to start out pretty big.

Also wait listed. Oh well. It didn’t bother me. Chicago wasn’t my first choice though I do love the school itself. There are just other factors (such as the fact that it’s in Chicago which my parents seem 100% against me going to for some reason) that make other schools more appealing and I already got into one of those so I don’t think I’m accepting the offer. Woo Caltech '13! LOL

Will we be able to find out how many are on the wait list? Because it says I think 8 percent get in on average, but I want to know how many there are.

Same here, an international.

waitlisted

2280 SAT
730 math II, 720 bio-e

i thought the essay was good

this is my 4th waitlist (WUSTL, GW, UNC)…im losing hope =O
