Waitlisted at a top college, any hope at a somewhat lower ranked college?

I am waitlisted at WUSTL, and I am now waiting on my decision from Carnegie Mellon University. I know Carnegie Mellon University is just as hard to get in, but would I be flat out rejected there or waitlisted again?

No, CMU is not as hard to be admitted as Wash U...not even close.......good luck!! and if you are waitlisted to CMU, figure out which school you really want to go to and have your guidance counselor call and commit you 100% (assuming you don't need FA)......waitlists will be very active this year.....

Oh well... looks like I be going to Georgia Tech:(.

can't believe you think that's a bad choice.....CC has gotten to your head....good luck!!

Why the sad face? Georgia Tech is a pretty good school, too.

Georgia Tech is pretty expensive for outstates, and I don't like Tech schools as much. I am fine with GTech, but my parents aren't. They say they would afford my education only if I get accepted into one of the top top colleges. Oh well... I probably won't be able to attend G Tech as well..

What are you SAT scores and GPA if you don't mind my asking? This would help clarify your chances at Carnegie Mellon. Also much more than GPA and SAT are considered but those will give a good indication of your chances.

GPA- 4.0
Rank- 2/239
7 APs (only 8 offered at school), Taking one online because it is not offered here
ACT-30 (31 since CMU superscores).
Highest Reading-32 Math-34 English 27(28 but didnt send that one to CMU) Science 31
All As on my Mid-Year Report.

First Generation

great chance at CMU, assuming no FA applied for.....hell, even with FA CMU looks very good.....

I thought CMU is need-blind?? maybe I am wrong

I know kids with lower ranks and scores who got into CMU. I guess it's how well you do in the field/school you are interested in. We have similar stats lol, and I was told I stand a really really good chance. I think you'll get in crosses fingers Good luck!

Yeah, CMU is need-blind...although I'm doubting how "blind" all need-blind schools are.

Hopefully!!

I bet you'll get in!

The ivy isn't always greener.

Good luck, homie.

I know how you feel I just found out I was waitlisted for WashU too, what do you guys think the chance of getting into the school, once waitlisted?

Schools can be need blind for admission but not meet your financial need when it comes to giving aid.

WashU is notorious for having a huge wait list. I personally don't know anyone that's been rejected, they all seem to get wait listed so I would not count on getting off that list.

That said, this is an unusual year and many believe those who can full pay will have a better chance than ever at getting off wait lists.

FWIW, there were 7 kids waitlisted last year to Wash U from our high school, two admitted. Of the 7 kids waitlisted, 5 are at Ivies including Princeton, Dartmouth and Penn...the two admitted: one is at Vandy, the other Columbia??? (I think)....In other words, a waitlist from Wash U means basically nothing as hmom as explained...it doesn't signify anything about other schools.....

another note: the two admitted last year showed zero demonstrated interest while others who were waitlisted actually visited the school and interviewed....

one final thing: the only people we know admitted off waitlist last year attended highly ranked privates.....

good to hear that.... anyways.... awaiting a rejection/waitlist from MIT this Saturday.

forgot to add MIT and Barnard to that list; thanks for reminding me...!! good luck Sat!

thanks... I was never optimistic about that anyways lol
