So yesterday, I started a thread stating I was waitlisted and I gave my stats. I sent the admissions department an email that said Cal Poly was my first choice, and if offered admission, I would definitely attend. I was not appealing my decision, but I was wondering if emailing them was the right thing to do.

If not, could I just mail them a letter? or should I sit tight and wait?

Not sure mailing would be more effective than email these days. I find the admission people there really helpful, I would give it a day or so for email to get to someone and follow up with a call asking any questions you may have…like is there any chance to move off of waitlist, can they give you a sense of where you are on list based on major and your stats? Worse they can do is say they don’t know. It’s not like they are gonna put you at the bottom of the list cause you call. I am sure they deal with very emotional people and someone simply asking questions like you have is an easier part of their job.

I’m on the waitlist right now as well, as of mid February. I sent admissions an e-mail about two weeks after I found out saying basically the same thing that you did among a couple of other points. It’s been 2 weeks since I’ve sent the e-mail, and still no response. BUT, I talked to admissions today and the man told me that my e-mail was transferred to the head of admissions and that he will be responding to me within a week to 10 days. Sorry, I probably didn’t need to go in to so much detail, you probably could care less about my case lol. Just letting you know that there is someone else in the same boat who e-mailed them too. I think it was a good idea. Good luck to you!

^thanks for your reply. which major did you apply for?

Psychology as a transfer student from Cuesta College.

ah i’m a freshman applicant for materials engineering… so I’m a bit worried about my chances but oh well

I know exactly how you guys feel right now. I was on the waitlisted on Feb 25, and a week later I got accepted to Cal Poly. So don’t give up hope yet guys!!! Everything can happen!!! I got accepted as Computer Engineering Transfer!!!

yeah i have hope^

and since apparently slo will transfer the email to admissions, I think there might be a chance for me. I told them about becoming an eagle scout, tutoring, and being an active volunteer at the library. will they take these accomplishments into account? or will they simply consider me stating that SLO is my 1st choice?

Now that the May 1st SIR deadline has passed…it would be great to know if anyone has heard back on their wait list status. S is waitlisted for ME based on an appeal of his initial rejection…
