Waitlisted for a Scholarship ?

My S was accepted to Temple but financially, it’s just not going to work out for 4 years. He wrote a letter to the Dean of Undergrad Admissions letting him know that as a senior he has a 4.0 GPA (not reflected on his current transcript), works year-round, and is eager to attend Temple. He also cited the monies being offered to attend LaSalle. The Dean replied stating that he had waitlisted S for a scholarship. Has anyone ever had a positive result for a scholarship waitlist at Temple?

no, but i would take the waitlist as a good sign. never even heard of that before but i do know people waitlisted for various schools who eventually got in. Temple obs like your kid enough to still consider a scholarship even though it’s a maybe at this point. smart kid to send a detailed letter in! they likely saw a kid with ambition and drive, which can only help his chances.

Thank you @ctl987 . He desperately wants to attend Temple and not go as as a transfer student but as parents we are trying very hard to minimize his debt. At this point we’re seriously considering making a deposit to 2 schools in the hopes that something will happen with Temple once everything kinda shakes out after that May 1 deadline.

that is not a bad idea. i guess if you make deposit and then don’t attend, all that happens is you lose deposit. which given circumstances, makes a lot of sense to do. will he go to lasalle if scholarship does not pan out? i have heard having another scholarship in hand can help increase a scholarship at pitt. maybe Temple has a similar policy.

The deposits are small enough that it might be worth a roll of the dice  We’re still weighing all options here. With the monies received from LaSalle it’s affordable for all 4 years. If he insists on Temple it may be a situation where he lives at home 1 year, attend a local college then transfer to Temple as a Sophomore either for the Fall term but perhaps pushing it to the Spring Term due to costs.

i thought about that too, starting Temple as a sophomore. i know it is not ideal but it would save money and may not be “that” much more than transferring his junior year. My guess if he gets a scholarship though is that it would only be partial, not for full tuition. i think temple’s scholarships range from 3K a year to full tuition. you probably know more than me on the amounts. and i totally get the cough affordable reference. Should i  or  on that one?

He basically needs a scholarship large enough to make tuition match in state rate.

You can choose your own emoticon because this whole process is definitely a large range of emotions LOL!
