So i know this thread is a month old, but has anyone heard back from Emory from the waitlist? Any thoughts or info you want to share?

Sorry I didn’t know someone asked a question; I will clarify…

What Emory does is they will call you and ask you if you are still interested; if you say “yes” they will ask for a verbal commitment on the phone; they will not allow you to revisit; it HAS to be your #1 choice and you have to be prepared to say so…

The numbers they record for college board and the CDS are NOT the # that are offered the admission, they are the number that actually still have Emory as their #1 when they are called…and commit to enroll

Interestingly, and I never thought about it till now, it makes perfect sense to waitlist an ED applicant because Emory can be assured that at some point it must have been their #1 school…it may avoid them from having to call a ton of people to get a “yes” answer…

Be advised though: if you need FA, it is a LONGSHOT that you will be called off the waitlist at ANY school…

IB: you won’t hear until after deposits are due; after May 1

Hope this clears it up for all…

I don’t understand. There are some universities that need replies by May 1st.
But then, we don’t even know when we are going to get a reply by Emory.
It says between the end of April (if we are LUCKY) and June.
I really want to go to Emory. I still want to. But then, if Emory were to call around May… that would just be too late.

@rodney. IB: you wont hear until after deposits are due < ?

^^what you do is you have to send (and possibly lose) a deposit to another school (your 2nd choice obviously)…

that’s the way all waitlists work…

and btw, I am a parent who has been through this process with one of my daughters and a number of my students/clients…

really? All of the schools i have been admitted to thus far require a deposit by May 1st at the latest, and other deadlines for housing and other stuff has already passed. I also think that the May 1st tuition deposit is binding to most schools, is it not? What i’m trying to say is that it’s not plausible for Emory to wait until after May. I mean Mid april is reasonable, but May is just too late for everyone… Uneless Emory is their ONLY choice.

^^guys, this goes on all the time; and this year it will be happening EVERYWHERE more than in previous years…there are a good number of schools who have bigger waitlists and some schools who are waitlisting that used to reject…it’s called enrollment management.

all schools know that there is summer melt and waitlist movement; no deposit is binding…it may be non-refundable, but it is not binding…

I’m sure the admissions people would LOVE to end this process earlier rather than later…if they could…but the reality is that THEY don’t know who is actually deposited until May 1st so how could they possibly go to the waitlist before that??

If you don’t believe all of this, go to your guidance offices and find out your plan of attack…I’m sure they will tell you the same thing; you deposit elsewhere, accept a spot on the waitlist (which I hope you have done already), and know that you may or may not get the call…some years Emory takes a bunch off the waitlist; others years very few…

That makes sense, thanks. It kinda puts the student in an awkward position, but i guess they need to cover all their bases before worrying about us.

Yes, schools’ first responsibility is to themselves, to remain financially viable in the long term, in order to keep attracting the applicants they want. Enrollment management is crucial.

I’ve already been waitlisted at two schools, and I accepted both offers, but as far as I’m concerned, it’s pretty much the death sentence. I really hope I don’t get waitlisted here too. I think I might die X(

it says 0 to 100 wait listed students are accepted each year…
Emory 2015 is one of the most competitive year… which is bad for the WL applicants.
Ah. Let’s stay positive!
We’re soon in April. Decisions come out around May. So… D-1 month!

So has anyone heard anything from Emory regarding the waitlist?

I got an email from Jean Jordan that I think everyone got? It was titled “Hello from Emory University.” But besides that, nothing.

Yup same, but mine was titled “how the waitlist works”

I got both. I just got the “how the waitlist works” thing today. I don’t think it means anything though.

Yea, if anyone hears anything please post it here!

Received my rejection today off the waitlist via e-mail. It’s not even May 1st.

^ are you serious??? I didn’t know they were rejecting people already. I’m scared…

Prinanp: when did you specify you wanted to know by in the wait list form online?

They are really rejecting people off the wait list. What do they say when they reject you?
