is there a difference between "priority waitlist" and just "waitlist"?

mine says:
Decision Plan: Regular
Academic Division: Engineering
Admission Status: Candidate offered position on priority waitlist

mine doesn't say that, so obviously there's some sort of difference.

Mine was "Candidate offered position on waitlist"

sigh

thanks for replying.

i don't know what it means though.

Well, I guess it means that if a spot does become available, they'd pick you over one of us ;)

A small victory, but a victory nonetheless... congrats!

thanks =D
i applied ED, got deferred, and now waitlisted.

Ouch? I was expecting a rejection, so I'm actually kind of happy that I at least landed on the wait list.

I guess priority waitlist means a higher waitlist? Does anybody know if you have to go to the school if you sign up for the waitlist and are accepted later?

Phoenix121
the waitlist is NOT binding.

No, you are free to reject them if they offer you a place later.

Is it possible that priority waitlist is reserved for deferred ED applicants?

the waitlist thing is confusing; my email notification led me to a link about the waitlist faq, and it said this:

Is the waiting list rank-ordered?
No. All wait-listed students will be reviewed for all available spaces.

so, maybe it would be better to ask an admissions person.

Uhh... I applied RD, so I don't think so.

"Candidate offered position on priority waitlist "

Same...

does anyone know if we get to go to o week? cause...
we won't know if we got in by then...

actually you will know by o-week whether you got in. o-week is the week before school starts.

Since the chance for waitlisted to get accepted is 5-10%, I would assume no.

Joseph, you're thinking of owl days.

ohhh haha right
gotcha. thanks for clearing that up

regular decision - priority waitlist

i am on the priority waitlist...

but i didn't get any email from rice today...
