I got waitlisted for Smith and I was distraught by the letter. But Im kind of uncertain about the whole waitlisted thing. Should I stay on the waiting list or take my name off. They stated in the letter that sometimes they may accept 10 students from the waiting list or even 40 students. What do you guys think?

I think that if Smith is your dream school then you should definitely stay on the waiting list. I would even contact a member of the admissions team to state how much you want to go to Smith, as well as forwarding any extra recommendation letters.

<sigh></sigh>

I was wait-listed too.

watsonishere are you going to stay on the waiting list. Im still deciding what I want to do. I mean Smith is a great school and their small town in wonderful. But IDK just yet. Hopefully MOnday I will speak with my guidance counselor about the whole thing.

mmmm high five guys, wait listed here too >.< I’m staying in…although I feel like it’s a tough chance that I’ll get in. I E-mail them asking about the process and this is the admission office’s reply:

" We received your note by mail inquiring about the waitlist. We will not know how many students are on our “active waitlist” until May 1 - as you all have until then to let us know if you choose to wait. Generally 50% choose to stay on the waitlist. All admitted students are asked to postmark their reply by May 1 and usually by mid-May we know whether we’ll begin re-reviewing those students have accepted to stay on our waitlist. Should we go to our waitlist, the process can last through the end of June. "

so, yeah, Smith takes a long time getting back and whose application gets review first seems to be entirely random. But Northampton is such a great town, I totally love it and Smith is a great school. Well, I mean, what’s the down side of staying in the wait list? Also where else have you guys been accepted to??
