Hey, I was wondering if someone could please give me some advice...I got wait-listed to CALS, which is rolling, probably because being such a horrible procrastinator, I sent in the application at the last minute. whoops. On the other hand, I got a likely letter from Dartmouth. It has become my top choice, but only because I have recently become obsessed with it after receiving the good news. So I guess my preference for Dmouth over Cornell is kind of biased since I haven't done that much research on Cornell...anyway, I was wondering if I should stay on the waiting list or not. There are a few factors I am worried about: is it true that being accepted from a waiting list will give you less financial aid? Also, I will be missing out on admit weekends and such since waiting list decisions are made in May. And the chances of getting in from a wait-list are slim, so should I even bother? Finally, and most importantly, are Cornell's waiting lists binding? I read somewhere that if you get into a school you are on a waiting list for, you have to attend no matter what. idk if that's true...anyway if someone could please get back to me ASAP that would be great! Thanks!

I've never heard of anybody being forced to attend a school if they were waitlisted and later accepted. However, my question is what happens if you've already enrolled at another school when you get the call from Cornell (or whatever other school that waitlisted you) that you have been accepted? Can you cancel enrollment at the other school, or is registration legally binding?

timbo, i'm pretty sure that you can easlily cancel your enrollment, but you will most likely lose the deposit you paid for that school.

ilovetrees, i was also waitlisted at cornell, but i have not been accepted to any school that i would really like to attend. for that reason, i chose to stay on the waitlist, but if you already prefer dartmouth, why stay on the cornell waitlist? i think if you choose to stay on the waitlist, you may lose your interest in dartmouth and you will eagerly await a decision from cornell that may ultimately never come. make sense?

Thanks guys, I think I will get off the wait list and let someone else have a shot =) I guess it seems pretty selfish in staying just to see if I got in, even when I never really wanted to go in the first place. Good luck to everyone!

Hey, maybe I can take your spot. Thanks pal!

Or maybe me LOL! :p Thanks.

If your name is "ilovetrees", you belong at Dartmouth anyhow.

if your username were iloveiceandcold however.....

shudder please don't remind me. :) I'm afraid I don't own anything heavier than a sweatshirt. I want to know more about the weather in terms of actual days of snow, low temps, high temps, but it's been so overdone on this board. I'm afraid of getting screamed at. lol.

don't worry, you will see plenty of people who bundle up their top half, and wear shorts and flipflops in the snow...crazy people...
