I just got waitlisted by Harvard and Columbia and it would be REALLY NICE to get off of it.

So now what? I'm making this thread in support of all people waitlisted. Discuss everything from the frustration of the situation to the possibility of actually getting off of the dreaded waitlist.

I was just waitlisted at U Penn and Wellesley. Along with Yale, these are the only East Coast schools I applied to, and it means a great deal that I was waitlisted at 2/3 (reject at Yale unfortch). I am really proud of myself, but I'm also dissapointed that I didn't work harder on apps. I think that if I would have actually submitted them on time, it may have made a difference.
Now, I have to decide between UCLA and my state college. I'll send in the cards and wait for my decisions, but I know it is a rarity to get selected. I just wish they would come out with waitlist decisions earlier than May because my SIR for UCLA has to be submitted by May 1st, yeesh!

I was just waitlisted at my first choice school. I was accepted at another school a while ago, and have until May 1st to respond, by which time I must submit the deposit (which the school considers a "commitment to matriculate"). As unlikely as it is, if I were to be accepted off the waitlist at my first choice, how would I turn down the school that had accepted me earlier? Would this be possible?

i know, the chances are so small and it's dumb that they bother putting so many people on the waitlist just so they can ultimately reject 98% of them. BLAH!

waitlisted by both CMC and Pomona. Hmm...still deciding whether to wait it out or not. Its so unlikely to get off it, but those schools are my absolute favorite...then again, I don't really want to have to write a letter or call them 5x just to reaffirm my interest, only to get rejected 3 months later. Plus, I know I'll be happy wherever I go...why prolong the agony? But they are my dream schools. But then there's financial aid! But they are schools that give 100% need-based aid with no loans. Ahhhhhh, brain...

Is there anything we can actually DO though? Stanford doesn't seem to want anything from us except for "brief updates" on grades/awards etc., which I don't have.
