What helps you get off the waitlist!?
Is it just your spring grades? Or room available after the deposit deadline?
I was waitlisted, thank God. I was sure I was gonna get just a flat out rejection.

Continued demonstrated interest and perhaps even an additional recommendation may help.

By Demonstrated Interest, do you mean talking to maybe one of the deans for the School of Nursing? (whom i already met in person)

Thats funny because one of my friends who just got accepted told me i should set up an appointment with Dr. Carroll, who is one of the deans for transfer admissions, and i think she’s also head of the transfer committe for the School of Nursing, and talk to her about how interested i am in attending UVA and such forth. Would this be a good idea???

Also, who would you recommend getting an extra rec from??? Would getting one from my Spring semester professors help more? or from my Boss or a current Nurse on the floor?

Ahhh sorry for all the questions, i just wanna do whatever it takes to try to get into UVA!

Yes, personal contact with an admissions dean may actually help quite a bit. You should get a rec from the person you feel will give you the most outstanding one. Aside from that if you are working in your field of interest you should get it from your boss. In the end, it all depends on whether the waitlist goes active or not.

at my D’s boyfriend’s high school.

One was out of state.

They were both boys.

There are still others on the waiting list at this school.

I heard that if you have your congressman write a letter to the Dean, it might help.

Good luck!

Do you mean for first years or transfers? I dearly hope you mean first years. Just because of my anxiety. UVAfan is a transfer student, as am I, which is why I ask.

I wish you luck, too!

Why thank you! And I couldn’t tell my your post, but good luck to your family as well if you all are still going through this process! And if not, congratulations!

One of my very best friends got off the waitlist yesterday. I’m very excited for her! I’m glad that my school will be represented in the class of '13. UVA was the school that hurt the most to turn down in favor of Princeton. Good luck to all on the waitlist, and congratulations to who got in.

golfer, how did your friend find out? phone call, email, etc.?
I’m another person waitlisted and the anxiety is killing me :(

I did absolutely nothing because I figured there was no shot of getting in off the wait-list and I ended up getting in. A woman from admissions called me a few days ago, seeing if I was still interested because if so she would bring my app up to the committee. Apparently they just started calling kids from the wait-list. She also said they needed more boys. I’m out of state if that makes any difference.

For those of you making it off the waitlist, congrats! Can you let us know…

Your stats?
State?
Gender?
Did you do anything to get their attention?
HOw long did they give you to reply?
Are you accepting?

Thanks much!

Wow she actually said they needed more boys?? if I remember correctly, Dean J has insisted that they make no such decisions based on gender.

I highly doubt someone in the admissions office would say “we need more boys”

haha why would i make that up? it would make sense that they would use the waitlisted kids to round out the class.

Your stats? i posted a chances thread a while ago
State? maryland
Gender? male
Did you do anything to get their attention? after getting waitlisted? nothing
HOw long did they give you to reply? the woman said a week over the phone but i haven’t seen that in writing.
Are you accepting? not sure

does anyone know how long we have to decide once we have gotten off the waitlist at UVA?

in the mailed letter it said one week from the date that the letter was sent.

We haven’t discussed gender in our meetings.

No. Letters from politicians who don’t know you well are rarely substantive.
