Waitlisted RD

So I found out on 3/21 that I was waitlisted at BU as a psychology major. They said they’d release the results by June 15 at the latest. Do I accept it? What does it mean if I do?
They are basically my top pick but that all depends on price since my family is low income, which is why I couldn’t do Early Decision. I’ve already been accepted to a lot of schools and if I go to UAlbany I’d only to pay 5k a year. Also, UAlbany pushed their enrollment deadline to June 1st. Is it worth accepting the waitlist? BU is now 100% need met but I don’t know how much that’ll be since my dad’s income was also included on the CSS and the only aid packages I’ve gotten are from fafsa only schools so far. Thanks for any input, I appreciate it.

Deposit at UAlbany, and remain on the waitlist at BU. Write a letter of continued interest, but, other than that, I wouldn’t spend a lot of emotional energy hoping to get off the waitlist. Some colleges will offer waitlisted students some aid (“meets need” may or may not apply to waitlisted candidates), but given current events, and possible raminifcations on endowments, etc., waitlisted students who are (or are willing to be) full pay are probably likely to be the first ones pulled.

If you do happen to get an offer from the waitlist, you’ll have a short time to decide whether to accept or not, usually 2-5 days. At that time you can evaluate finances and withdraw from UAlbany if the money works out. It is unlikely you will get an offer that will be able to beat $5K/year, though. That’s really, really, good.

Does BU ever accept students off the waitlist before May 1?

I guess its technically possible if a ton of people denied their admissions before the deadline, but pretty much no. 99% of the kids are gonna wait to decline/accept their admission right before the deadline of May 1st, so BU wouldn’t be able to tell how many kids they need to take off the waitlist until after that.
Looking at stats though, BU seems to be exceptionally tough to get off the waitlist. I think last year only one person got off or something, so I really wouldn’t bet on getting in. You can stay on the waitlist, but put your focus on another school that you’ve been accepted to.

Do you think year because of COVID-19t that ess international students and out-of-state students are likely to commit and yield rates will be lower at a lot of places? I hope this is true because I want to get off the waitlist too at either Northeastern or BU.

I think there is a good chance international students won’t be able to start until the spring, due to the time it can take to get a visa. What the colleges do to manage that possibility is still up in the air and is likely to vary widely from college-to-college. It is only a possibility at this point.

I think the best thing you can do to increase your chances of getting off the waitlist right now is agree to be full pay.

Hey I also got waitlisted from BU as a psychology major. Today is June 15 and they said they were going to release decisions but I haven’t gotten anything. Do u know what time they’ll release it?
