<p>RICHCAS…etc. for posting fasctual information. One of the things that I find has been most distressing about this whole College Confidential Forum is the lack of factual information you see. Alot of anecdotal info but when folks who have never been within 300 miles of an admissions officer start giving advice in the “chance me” vein, I want to get an AK47. As an information analyst with decades of experience and as someone who was formerly in the Harvard University administration, I have to tell you that in many many cases it would appear this forum is full of at best worthless information and at worst harmful information. Until you sit on an admission committee or extensively talk to someone who has, I think most of us should stick to finding the facts as RICHCAS… has. </p>

<p>Tulane doesn’t seem to post their CDS on line on their website
But I did find a Tulane University Magazine article from May of 2007 that noted that Tulane did not use their waitlist for the class of 2011 that entered in the Fall of 2007<br>

The university’s goal for this year’s freshman class was 1,200. “However, interest by students with strong qualifications was so great we were able to increase our class size and maintain our high academic profile,” says Retif. He adds, “Since demand was so great, we were unable to accommodate the very qualified students on our wait list.”

<p>Rice doesn’t appear to have their Common Data Set’s posted publicly on their web site.</p>

<p>But they do have a page of Wait List FAQ’s in their admissions web site.

<p>Here’s a couple of the questions.

• What is an “alternate?” What is the “waiting list?”
  Your application received strong enough support from the Admission Committee to be approved for admission. However, Rice’s small size (only 850 new students) prevents us from admitting all such students. As an “alternate” to the class you are given the opportunity to be placed on the “waiting list.” Students on the waiting list are considered for positions in the class that remain unfilled in May and June.</p>

<li>How many students are on the waiting list?
No one knows yet. Only students who respond affirmatively by May 1, 2009 will be on the waiting list. Not all of the students offered this opportunity will choose to remain an alternate, so the actual size of the waiting list will not be known until May.

<p>I’m always wondering how the economy will change the number of wait-list acceptances this year. I know the schools with great financial aid policies (HYPM) have (almost!) nothing to worry about, but it’s still a very volatile college admissions process this year.</p>

<p>Does anybody else have their opinions on how the economy will change the statistical amounts of getting in off the wait-list this year? Especially for private U’s (higher and lower tiers)?</p>
