My S was waitlisted for broadcast journalism at the Newhouse School today. Has anyone heard how many were waitlisted specifically to Newhouse. I wonder what the odds are for getting in.

I don’t know for each school. D was waitlisted for sport management. From reading the post, I think a lot of kids are dissatisfied with fin aid so maybe this year the waitlist will play a bigger part. My suggestion is to call the school on Monday and ask. We live nearby so we are going in and facing them. I will post anything I find out. If you have a Fiske guide or Princeton review or one of those books, I believe they say how many from the waitlist, but that would be SU in total, not the individual schools. So frustrating, reading the post, many of these students have wonderful stats. We knew it was a competitive year, but SU applications were down 10% this year! Go figure…

After weeks of anxiety and dread, I received an email today saying “we wish to offer you a place on our admissions waitlist for the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, Magazine program.”
Which just sucks. If we are supposed to find out May 15th if we get in or not, how do I work around that when all of my other schools’ deadlines are May 1st for registration and payments?
I emailed them right after I got that email because I put Newhouse as my 1st choice and College of Arts and Sci as my 2nd choice, when I really think that Arts and Sci is where I want to go. So I asked them if I could be considered for my 2nd choice instead of my 1st, in hopes of being admitted to that.

What do you guys think? How do you handle being waitlisted? It seems just as bad as being rejected…
…I feel the same.

applied to drama school…waitlisted to newhouse. yes its as good as rejection, they dont even notify you until after may 15 ugh, oh well, i just got inot Boston University! Good Luck you guys

jigfeet, what happens is if you get into syracuse, you go, and you lose your deposit to the other school. you have to decide whether or not the switch to syracuse from your current chosen school is worth the deposit money you’re going to lose.

For D the deposit to her other school is worth it. If she gets off the waitlist, she will forgo the deposit and go to SU. She has the same question about her 2nd choice, she is willing to take that if it means acceptance. She was torn between the 2 anyway.
