Waitlisted: Transfer to McGill

I've applied to McGill for a transfer, and my Status changed from Reviewed: Pending Decision, to "Waitlist".

I'm trying to transfer into the 2nd year.

In my first year of College, at Kwantlen, my overall GPA is 3.61. First term was 3.46, second term was 3.73.

I got accepted into University of British Columbia and have to accept their offer within a week, registration for classes starts on July 12.

I doubt the wait list will give its decision by then so I'll probably go to UBC.

I did accept McGill's Waitlist Offer, just so I can find out if I get accepted maybe later in the month. It would however be too much of a hassle to find a place to live in Montreal within one month/do all my planning to move there (I live in Vancouver, BC).

I was really hopeful until I just found out that I got Waitlisted. Damn.

About the moving/living thing: I don’t think it’s that hard to plan or find a place to live in Montreal. I typically search in mid-July/August and then go up for a weekend, stay at a friend’s and find a place. Plus, what else would you have plan besides what you normally bring to school (if you don’t live at home). Good luck with the waitlist thing though.

Thanks for the reply. Just wondering, do you go to McGill and where do you originally live? If I do get accepted into McGill in late July, after registering my courses for UBC, I just might be tempted to make it work for McGill. I’d just need to get an airline ticket, get there, and find a place (I think I’ve got a relative that lives there so I can stay there until I find a place).

I have a question about finding a place there, I know how to search for housing through McGill’s Off-Campus housing website. However, I’d probably want a place that is furnished since it’s much easier for me, I live in the other side of Canada so it’s best if instead of buying new furniture for the place I’d rather just go for a furnished place.

Are furnished apartments easy to come by? I’d probably be looking for a place that is in walking distance of McGill (I can’t cook so I’d go for the Meal Plan). Thanks.

I do go to McGill (this Fall is my last year) and I’m originally from Boston. I actually haven’t looked at the McGill site, I usually go straight to Craigslist Montreal and look up places. Furnished places aren’t hard to come across (there are some really nice places such as 515 St. Catherine) but they are definitely more expensive-an unfurnished place can start at $500 but a furnished usually starts at $900-unless you can find a person who will sublet for the year and is leaving their furniture behind-then it could be cheaper than $900. Also, the price may be cheaper depending on where you want to live. If you live closer to campus it may be more expensive or if you live in nicer areas (Drummond, Concordia area) it will be more expensive. But there are definitely some fair-priced apartments near school (unfurnished) around $500. It’s all up to you!

The hardest part would definitely be the “finding the apartment” part. I’m not even sure if I have a relative that lives there. Staying at a hotel until I can look at some apartments/finish the deal would be inconvenient, especially if I don’t get lucky and the hotel bill adds up.

I got waitlisted for Mcgill too, as a transfer student as well. Have you heard anything yet/are you still going to UBC?

Im still waitlisted at McGill. I got accepted for UBC near the end of June and today the registration for 2nd year students opened and so I registered my courses for UBC today.
