Going to hear back before June 1st…What am I going to tell all my friends where I am going, then to later find out I am going somewhere else?

EDIT: I made a lot of friends through facebook college groups and such, some really want to know where I am finally choosing to go. I might not see some others, I don’t want to just lead them all on like this.

I completely understand. I’m so unsure of what to tell people. I’m not even sure if I should mention that I was waitlisted or just tell people the name of the school that I’ll accept unless I hear from U of I. Keep your hopes up,though!! Like I said to antsypants, there’s a waitlist for a reason!!

My hopes are up. I’m just so unsure in the meantime. I don’t even know if I should tell my counselor because she told me I would not get in. I guess she was right. I guess I’ll just try to avoid the subject, but for about a month is kind of difficult in a school where everyone asks about where you are going.

No!! She wasn’t right, because you still have a chance!! You were not denied, like she thought you would be. I think you should tell her and maybe ask about your chances now. After all, counselors are there to help students. I’m probably going to tell people I was waitlisted at U of I, and for now I’m going to whatever my second choice ends up being. By June, school is (at least for me) over and you will only have to deal with your closest friends.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I can’t talk to her, I can exactly hear her response now “See ____, why did you apply, I told you”. I can’t tell people I was waitlisted from illinois! I just can’t, the shame and crap that will come from it. I remember last year the people who laughed at another guy who got waitlisted. My school ends at around May 28th, so hopefully I can pull it off.

That’s horrible! Counselors are supposed to be supportive, not rude. If you really can’t tell people you were waitlisted, then maybe you can just tell them your second choice school and surprise them if you get into Illinois!! Yeah, I assume they will start considering waitlist after May 1st, I hope we will know before school ends too!!!

I applied to DGS. Also, I’m confused. If you read the responses to the blog, it said that they did not turn to the wait list, but I know people who were wait listed last year who were accepted. Can someone clarify?

Volleyrunner , what I don’t understand is how you could be wait listed from DGS with your Stats. I have many friends who got as low as a 20 ACT and got in. And their GPAs weren’t that great. Maybe the percentage of Asians were told high? I know When it comes to college, Asians aren’t the smallest minority anymore. Since 14% o the 7% of Asians in this country end up going to college. Judging by what I’ve seen, admissions are generally in favor of URM students.
Maybe you might be moved in after May 1st. You’re definitely qualified…

Waitlisted: Gpa 3.55 uw 4.68 w…27 ACT, eagle scout, 4 years football-starting varisity, 4 years wrestling, 2 yrs trk and field, hundreds of hours community service, many awards-accepted to 7 other schools with 50% merit scholarships…GO FIGURE.
