Waitlisted

I was going into Biology and the letter did not say if it was for Biology or if they put me into General Studies. However, I am not accepting the waitlisting. Time to move on to my first or second choice. I am more fond of red then orange anyway!

Indiana University?

Indianna?..there’s a school there? (just kidding). No-either Wisconsin or a small private one that I like

I got postponed to Madison /: it was my second choice.

“This year we have wait listed around 2,000 students.” I emailed and asked. Well…

i have very similar stats to you guys (perhaps even inferior to some of you), and i’m asian too. all i can say is don’t lose heart, and what college you get into doesn’t nearly matter as much as what you do when you get there.

i’m turning 21 this year, spending the last three years after high school in the army and starting a tech company. i recently got hired full-time at another tech startup and earn more than the average CS undergrad from stanford… though i haven’t had any formal education in my field.

most of my friends from high school are now entering their senior year of college and only a tiny handful of them have a job waiting for them. the vast majority are just starting to regret the last few years of partying and studying joke majors. even those at ivys – a lot of them are in limbo. one at an elite, brand-name school texted me last week that she was terrified of graduating because she has no skills and can’t find a job. some of my friends at state schools have already landed jobs at google & facebook through sheer hard work.

don’t be infatuated with any one school – its just like any relationship. if the school doesn’t accept you, you probably wouldn’t have been happy there anyway. it has nothing to do with your academic ability or your ECs or what voodoo magic you thought would get you accepted. the ultimate factor in your success is how happy you are and how hard you’re willing to work to make things happen.

keep an open mind, and do your best wherever you go. chances are that you’ll find yourself more successful than the thousands who got into their dream school and wasted the opportunities there!

^ this man speaks the truth. i was so hung up on getting into the university of michigan, that when i was deferred, then waitlisted, and finally rejected, it was terrible. now i’m at a 3.93gpa, doing research with a world-renowned chemist, did two summer research internships at other major institutions, and just got recruited to a major research lab in nyc as a sophomore. i have tons of experience and skills in things that are related to my field, and i’m doing a hell of a lot better than my friends at umich or the ivies.

work hard anywhere and you’ll be successful.

I am getting so frustrated with this! Everyone else I know already knows where they are going to college, but I’m still stuck in this rut of not knowing.

My friend applied to U of I with good ECs and a 31 on his ACT, fairly decent grades, and was waitlisted.

Another kid at my school is involved in barely any extracurricular activities and got a 26 on his ACT and was accepted.

I really don’t understand how U of I works, because if the second applicant was accepted, my friend should have been too, and so should all of you~

What major did your wait listed friend apply to? Sometimes that has something to do with it.

Bump

My friend last year had 2.7 GPA and a 28 ACT. He was waitlisted and then accepted. Don’t freak out, you can always transfer if it doesn’t work out.

I was in the same boat about two years ago guys. Only I got rejected. I’m not going to lie, U of I was my top choice. It was even worse when my other friend who had no ambition or drive or brains got in. I probably cried for three weeks and then some more but if there was one thing I learned from this experience is that you can only plan so much. If you get into you’re dream college and everything goes according to what you planned then that’s great but doesn’t sound like so much fun does it. My point is, without getting all cheesy, that its best to just go with it. Whatever happens, happens. Just breath, it’ll all work out one way or another.

Soso94, were you admitted off of the wait list?

Dweb, if you don’t mind me asking, what were your credentials and which college were you wait listed to?

Bump!!!

Guys, I was admitted to UIUC college of engineering (major: computer science)

I’m going to visit UC Berkeley in 1 week, If I like it there, I will be declining my admission offer for UIUC.

Good luck! at least one of you here will get my spot.

p.s.
*** you guys are asian and get 3.5 GPAs??? no offence i’m asian too lol…but seriously 3.5??

Rude much?
You won’t be giving any of us from LAS or DGS your spot, you obviously didn’t read the thread. Applicants are wait listed by college.
