Waitlisted

I am an international student who got waitlisted for the class of 2020. However, one kid from my highschool already got an acceptance. What are the chances that the other student doesn’t back out (it’s their dream school!) and I get taken off the waitlist as well!! I really want to attend Uchicago >_<

Thank You!

PS - Does anyone know the statistics for how many students Uchicago takes from particular countries (especially India)?

UChicago has an international population that hovers around 10%, or maybe 200 students accepted. Because diversity is one goal in the admissions process, I would guess that China and India don’t account for more than 100 of them, if the number is even that high. Probably 30-50 accepted students in India.

Most students on the waitlist won’t be accepted, and the ones that are generally have a hook (URM, athletics, instrument) and replace hooked applicants who didn’t enroll. So, unless you have a hook, in which case the odds are still pretty low, don’t hold your breath.

72 countries
About 250 accepted

I got waitlisted…anyone knows the stats to get off the waitlist.

My high school had 3/4 people who got in commit and still someone got in off the waitlist. It really doesn’t have much to do with what other people in your school do.

It’s more about what kind of student the school wants than the school that he or she goes to. For example, if they have a shortage of tuba players in a class, they might pull a tuba player off the waitlist. It doesn’t matter if the tuba player is from a school with no UChicago acceptances or a school with 3 UChicago acceptances. Their goal with the waitlist is to shape the class and balance out the remaining slots available, so the school you went to and the fact that one of your classmates got in will have absolutely nothing to do with whether you get in or not, regardless of whether your classmate chooses to attend. Good luck!
