hilsa, my fingers are crossed for you, too - and the other deserving students who’ve been waitlisted. I think acceptances were much more restricted this year than previously because of the spike in the number of applications; the standard formulas don’t apply. If you read some of the results threads, you’ll see that acceptance rates are lower at many, many top schools. And I think they’ll have to go to their waitlists in many cases. So hang in there - lots of folks are rooting for you!

I’m sending in extra essays and keeping in contact with the admissions office. I really want to go to Vanderbilt. The next couple months are going to be so hard because I’ll be holding onto the slight chance that I might get into Vandy even when I’ll be putting a deposit and filling out housing information for another school.

does it help your chances if you were to visit while on the waitlitst?

I honestly don’t think so. And please don’t think I’m trying to feed you false information just because I want to get off the waitlist, too.

I do know they care about demonstrated interest towards your actual application though. I just don’t think Vandy tracks down who visits the school and uses that to an applicant’s benefit.

there is always at least one student every year on cc that everyone is pulling for, and hilsa, this year it was you. You still have a chance at Vandy and I know, whatever the outcome, you are going to be an asset to the school you attend.

wjhsxc - love your #4 cause we all love hilsa.
Hilsa - will you do us a favor and post a seperate thread with your name and any news about your coming off the wait list. I want to follow through with you but will probably not spend enough time on cc to ensure that I see what happens with your status at Vanderbilt.
Many of us are still pulling for you.

Hilsa- My DD also was waitlisted, and we had a rough week-end getting through it. So sorry for you. As others have said, your enthusiasm and Vandy energy are well respected. We hope for the best for you. DD is accepted at two other schools, but she is like you- very focused on Vandy. So she will stay on the wait list, try to demonstrate her continued interest, and hope for the best. According to the CDS, last year they took 202 from the 1390 that stayed on the wait list. From what I am hearing this year, the wait list will be larger, but they wil probably accept more from it. Congrats to all who have gotten in, and best of luck to thise still in limbo, especially our beloved hilsa. -Mel

As I have said, expect the percentage of those on the waitlist to get offers, to go up. I think about 30% of those on the waitlist will get offers. Just my opinion.

Something to keep in mind for those of you on the waiting list–

At many schools, students that are ultimately offered a spot to attend are NOT offered financial aid because those allocations have already been made.

It says in the waitlist package that financial aid will still be offered.

They just recently posted this on the Digital Commons (vanderbilt.edu/classof2013), dunno why, thought it was for accepted students. But I thought you might be interested, Hilsa (and anyone else I guess…)

I haven’t really talked to that many people who applied from my school in the past few days, but I have heard 1 reject and 4 waitlists from the people I talked to. Two of us got in ED and one person for MOSAIC, so I don’t know if that has something to do with it, but it does seem like many people are on that waitlist.

An interesting quote from that website:

Leverage your offers
“Vanderbilt will probably end up the hottest school this year. They can offer a lot of good merit aid. We already had kids last year turning down Duke, Georgetown and Penn to go to Vanderbilt with lots of money. So why not use a more lucrative offer to try to get off the waitlist? Then again, with financial things so bad, Vanderbilt’s admit rate could go below 20% this year.” — Gavin Bradley, college counselor at Atlanta’s Pace Academy and former admissions officer at Columbia University
