How many people do they waitlist?

and how many usually get off the waitlist?

any advice for someone (cough, me) who was waitlisted at the bulk of her ivies (+duke), and rejected from the rest?

Columbia is my only waitlist school. Any info on how things worked in the past would be great!

Last year (2013) no one got off the waitlist.

Are you serious? How do you know??

i am cc’13. paid attention to admissions news at that time of the year. talk to some other kids here who confirmed it.

Please, this attitude will get you nowhere in life, let alone college admissions.

Got waitlisted also. I’m not totally upset, considering the caliber of students waitlisted.
The fact that no one got in last year dosen’t mean that’s true for this year, as well.
BUT, i’ve heard that an ivy waitlist is like a “nice” rejection.
Oh well, only time will tell.

I’m in the same boat. wooo

i do have a question.
columbia said to give the reserve deposit to a college to attend by May 1st. What happens if you get in through the waitlist?
You just tell the other school, “Sorry, i’m not going to your college. keep the deposit.”?

^ you got it.

i was waitlisted too… i’m completely baffled (in a good way) because i have average stats and i’m asian

Waitlisted too…I figure being a female applying to SEAS sure didn’t hurt…we’ll see what happens. I’m waitlisted at Princeton, too, and just thrilled! My stats were sub-par in SO many ways…;)

being a non-perfect asian sucks. C’mon i’m first gen and i work my a$# off every day to support my family and i still end up finishing top in my school.
Why wouldn’t they want that??
Kidding, they do want that(at least that’s what the waitlist letter said), but they have no room.
Also, not only was the percentage accepted was lower, the number of students was lower as well. ordinarily, we associate lower acc. % to higher applicant numbers. however, this year they physically took fewer applicants(according to various data tables from links on columbia forums on CC).
So, that means that they are looking to increase the number of acceptances from waitlists. Right???
Ex. if they had 2800(random #) seats available, and only took 2600 kids. whose going to fill in the 200 seats. The waitlist kids.
I don’t know, just pray what i wrote is legit and not the effects of heavy drinking and meth use!!!

No one? I really doubt that. A website I was looking at said 45 for 2008 though, which is not a whole lot better.

i’m just going to go ahead and come to terms with nyu or cmu. i’m still writing a letter to columbia (nothing gained, nothing lost… right?)

I have a feeling yield will be way down this year at all the ivies. It seems like there are a lot of cross admits. I’m feeling very optimistic about this. I’m going to do something amazing for that one-page max. essay we can write though. When they review the whole waitlist again, I want to be sure I have a good shot.

I got waitlisted too, both at Columbia and at Harvard and I have very ordinary stats. Even if they don’t take me from waitlist, i am pretty happy going to JHU.

I was basically in shock when I got waitlisted. I thought I was getting rejected for SURE. Coincidentally, I thought I had a much better shot at UPenn and ended up getting flat-out rejected. Funny how things work out
To the OP: We should just call the admissions office in a few days and ask. I can’t imagine them refusing to answer.

That’s a good idea, missymargaux. I’ve heard that they’re required to make information like that available.

Waitlisted… Would sending in stuff really help, though? The Columbia site said that they don’t want any extra materials sent in.

I heard that you can request information on how many students were accepted from previous waitlists, according to the NACAC “Statement of Students’ Rights and Responsibilities in the College Admissions Process.”

So why doesn’t anyone know exact numbers??

I’ll do that on monday
