I also got waitlisted, but what were you guys thinking of sending? cuz, i was under the impression that they really didn’t want other stuff. It seemed like they got a good feel of the applicants from the original app, and that’s why we’re waitlisted, cuz they already like us.

Anyways,
Rejected: Harvard, Yale (not really surprised about those)
Waitlisted: Brown
Accepted: OU, BU, UF, FSU, SUNY Geneseo, UNC-CH, U Chicago

Right now, looks like I’ll be going to OU (Go Sooners!!)

I’m sending a letter just to say that I’m still interested and would definitely go if admitted. I’m also planning on sending my end of the year grades if I don’t hear anything by then.

What exactly are we supposed to send in if we’re waitlisted? I’ve heard that we have to write another essay, get a new letter of recommendation, and an update on awards, etc… is that true?

Does anyone know when students might begin to hear if they’re off the wailist? Would it happen in mid May? late May? After that? At some point it may be wise to just walk away, even though it is painful, just to have some peace of mind and to get used to going to another school.

Hi! Good luck to all waitlistees here.
I am attending Brown next year, but my “boyfriend” (for lack of a better term) was waitlisted. Is there anything special anyone can do? What are his odds? When will he find out? Does it hurt him that someone from our area (me) got in?

^^Yeah, a letter of continued interest is good to send in. At least so they know that if they do want to take you off, that you’ll actually come. I sent in a page update with new information, futhermore stating that I would very much like to attend.

^I was looking at some older waitlist threads, and Brown seemed to notify in intervals. One group of admissions came out in mid May, then in late May, then they sent out a round of rejections at the start of June, and then more admissions close to the end of june, in which many had admission deffered to the next year, and by July 1st, they sent out final admissions decisions to all on list.

Someone could confirm this if they pleased, and don’t expect it to be fortelling of anything that could happen this year, as we still don’t know if they’ll be taking anyone off the list anyway. Let’s hope they do! :D

I’m not sure there’s anything special you can do, as all they really seemed to want is a maximum of a page of your continued interest. They’ll go from there. They would probably still hold to their admissions standards as normal, so geographic diversity must still remain a plus. However, if they really want him, they’ll take him.

I talked to someone early April regarding the waitlist.

Just to confirm what drpvv said, the person told me that Brown does waitlist in intervals or waves. First wave happens around May 12 or mid-May (approx those days) where it accepts like 20-ish and reject a bunch. Then a second wave around late May where it accepts 8-12-ish and reject a bunch, etc…

That was a far as I could remember. My recollection should still be pretty accurate…

^I definitely would take that with a grain of salt! In some years Brown doesn’t take anyone off the list and others, they take upwards 90 people. I would just advice against holding out for them to make offers in numbers such as those so soon. They are still gauging at how many people accepted their offer. Please take it from me, it’s totally not healthy articulating these tiny details…especially now. Enjoy the rest of your senior year! And start looking forward to the summer months!!!

@Ambitious- How did you deal with the wait for your decision? It’s only May 1st, and having to SIR at my second choice has only made me want Brown oh so much more (as well as make me much sadder D: )!

The wait was terrible. I nearly drove myself insane (and i’m not joking). It felt like I was being strung along not knowing what to expect—accept? reject? defer a year? I was so confused and hurt and thrilled to go to my other school and sometimes sad because Brown really didn’t make an effort to inform waitlisted students of the progross of the list (other schools informed waitlisted students of the movement within the list). I almost took my name off the list about 2 weeks before I got my acceptance because they called my school in mid-May to see if I was interested in going, but didn’t do anything else until the beginning of June. Such a bad experience I do not want to re-live. That’s why I urge you all to not get fixated on this waitlist thing like I did! It’s totally not healthy!

Brown 2015 hopeful here, this thread is scaring me o.0 haha

Just out of curiosity, if you deposit at another school and then get accepted at Brown, approximately how much money do you lose? I think someone already asked but I haven’t seen an answer

^^Yep… Schools all vary in their deposit amount. Luckily for me, it was only $100!

^^^Bwahh. I really hope that if I do get off, it will be towards the end of the school year and not into summer, as by then, my listless summer days would be plagued with fantasies, and I would have hours to dwell.

Ambitious- Did you just send a single letter of continued interest and leave it at that, or did you maintain further contact with the university?

Called the admissions office today- they don’t know yet if they’re going to be taking people off the waitlist, and probably won’t have any idea until next week… although if they don’t know by now, I’m guessing it means it’s still possible that they won’t take anyone, and if they do, not that many.

S sent in continued interest letter. Brown responded with a letter that it received my S’s letter. Sadly though, Brown mispelled my son’s last name. Good sign or bad sign?
