Waitlisting...

What factors would contribute to you getting waitlisted? One of my essays really sucks, and I think I can write a better one if I get waitlisted (the essay asks why the college would be a good fit for you...I just now realized how important it was). I can also bring up my test scores a little.

I'm clueless about waitlists, so it would be nice if anyone can enlighten me.

You can write the essay and send it as a supplement now. Getting in after getting waitlisted is pretty hard ,if not impossible.

rewrite it and send it in

And retake and send them in ASAP. Once waitlisted, tons of kids will start doing this exact same thing. It's reallyy hard to get off waitlists.

Wait, I'm allowed to rewrite my essay and send it in?! Can anyone confirm this? I thought it was a pretty bizzare idea when I posted this...

I'm an ED applicant and the decision's coming Dec 15. It was the "Why Penn?" essay for UPenn. Wouldn't it be a little awkward to submit a much better essay all of a sudden? Do they still look at my old essay or do they just trash it? Anyhow, I have a valid reason as I just researched more schools and I can only see myself fitting in at Penn. For all the other schools, I'd choose my state U over them :</p>

You mean deferred, not waitlisted...those are different things.

If it was to a school you applied to ED with a Nov 1 deadline, no, you shouldn't rewrite your essay. It would look like you could not meet a deadline (especially if it was the "Why Penn" one; you should know "why" if you are applying ED) and anyway I doubt that they would accept it, especially a month past the due date.
If you are that concerned that you will not get into your ED school (and even if you are not) you should now focus on your match and safety applications.

If you are deferred ED, send it in for RD. And retake for better scores if you want.

Is it possible to get deferred if mainly your essay sucks though?

rlm919 is right, if you applied ED, you're too late...however, if you have decent stats and they arnt up to par wtih ED standards, you'll be waitlisted, and if you are, definently resend the essay and attach a cover letter explaining your want to go to Penn and why you rewrote it (you did more research, you found that its your perfect school, or you considered other schools and it made you want to be at Penn even more, ect)...it wont hurt you

I'm too late? I hear Penn doesn't make decisions on ED applicants until early December? So don't I still have a couple days to get it in if I just tell them that I can't find any other schools that fit me as well as Penn?

EISD- penn will most likely not even look at your new essay if you send it in now. if they did, that would set a precedent for all kids who simply didn't try their hardest (not that you didn't, but still) by the deadline to just finish up after and send it in later. deadlines are deadlines. however, if you do get deferred, then that's your opportunity to improve your application file.

My friend who applied ED to Penn got an email on 15th Nov saying that UPenn is still accepting ED applications. So, you may be able to send the essays. Just ask them if you can and then if they say yes, send your essay.

EISD:

Penn is extremely hard to get into, Should you get waitlisted or rejected. You willl never know the reason. It could simply be that you were not fortunate enough. The Ivy's reject or waitlist some amazing students. Any individual's chances are not that great to start with.

Seems to me that if you send in a new Eesay whether they take it or not says to them that I didn't do my best work can I have another chance. I think that alone is a black mark you don't want to have.

But it's your decision. I'm only guessig as well. Who really knows how they will take it or what they think of it.

Good luck.

What about submitting a resume though? I think it would describe my abilities much better than the 6 lines that's available on the college application.

You should have thought about this BEFORE the deadline.
