Safeties are non auditioned that your child’s SAT and GPA would easily admit them.
@ballet97 Texas State is an awesome program. My S is a freshman MT there and he really feels like he made the right choice. Kaitlin and Jim treat all the kids as their own and really promote a great atmosphere. Beautiful campus in a great area. If you have any specific questions, just PM me or post them on the Texas State section of the site.
^and is a financial safety as well.
^no doubt. As a parent it is awesome to know S will graduate with no debt. Pretty important for an actor!
@MTDadandProud From what I remember, your son got in to quite a few top tier schools. What was it about Texas State that made him choose it over those other top schools?
@ballet97 and @mtmcmt my son and I both fell in love with Texas State at NY unifieds - we have not yet visited the TSU campus but my son is thrilled to be on their “priority hold” list and we will definitely jump in a plane to visit if he gets a “yes” (which I am sure will confirm his gut feeling about TSU) - it is a top choice for my son for so many reasons, including the emphasis on developing students as individual artists, emphasis on vocal health, connection to the industry, weather and cost - Kaitlin seems wonderful and @MTDadandProud’s postings about his son’s experience so far have just reinforced our positive impressions of the school - so we are crossing our fingers and toes and wish the best of luck to you!
@LifeIsAMusical Thanks and to you, too!!! D is realistic by now, having had a couple "no"s so she is trying not to put her heart on it but she would love it if it happened.
@TapperDad Yes, he was fortunate to have some excellent choices. I certainly echo what @LifeIsAMusical has to say about Texas State because those were all factors. We visited all his final choice schools (3 of them) and ultimately we let it be his choice and on the day he decided he told me “Dad I just feel like Texas State is where I want to be. It feels like home.” I know that is hard to quantify but that was the final deciding factor. No doubt, his choices were excellent and some my question his decision not to go with a “brand name” but he is still convinced he is in the right place for him. Kaitlin and Jim are like second parents to him and they really emphasize the need to be a good human being as well as a talented performer.
It is hard not to fall in love with a school at this point but it is really important. Like other top programs, Texas State admits so few out of many talented kids. I’m sure you will all end up in great places. I hope it is Texas State!
My D just got an email saying “priority wait”. Is that a good thing? I know they still have auditions thru next week. ???
@ballet97 if it is for Texas State, you are still in the pool of applicants being considered. Ultimately, you may still be accepted, waitlisted or rejected. But you’ve made it to their small pool from which they will make those final decisions. Congratulations!
Wow congrats!!
Thank you for explaining it. Texas state is her top choice! She did her best. All these kids have worked so hard. So now we wait and trust that God is in control!
@MTDadandProud I was just curious. My son is a freshman at NYU, but at this time last year, the program he fell in love with was Otterbein, making it to that final cut before the calls. So when your son got accepted, I followed the rest of his journey. I didn’t know if it was geographical, he really liked it, or some other reason that made him pick Texas State.
Although we haven’t visited yet, Texas State has jumped to the top of my son’s list after auditioning - completing auditions definitely helps give kids perspective about everything they are looking for, not just in a program but in the overall university as well - Kaitlin made such a wonderful impression (in the midst of the NY blizzifieds) - he is on priority hold and we REALLY want to get a yes soon so that we can take a family trip to Texas, check it out, and confirm it is as awesome as it sounds and looks in pictures!
Sorry, my previous post was directed to @ballet97 whose daughter is in the same boat as my son! Best of luck!!!
Our D is in same boat @LifeIsAMusical and @ballet97! Texas State. The auditors represent the program well in the audition setting. Seem to make many want to be in the program.
I wonder how many priority holds they have
@mtmamma2020 wondering the same! I know they said “about 40,” but with such a small class size one has to now wonder exactly how many, is it evenly split male/female, etc…I think a couple of boys have already gotten into the program? Crossing fingers and toes and wishing the next week or so would speed up! So nice to know that the majority of us on this forum are feeling the same…
CCM question: do you have to be admitted acedemically to the university first before they tell you your artistic decision?
Hope the "priority hold " will turn in to a yes and we can all meet in Texas! My D has one more audition this weekend (FSU). And then we wait…
