This is good to know. Thanks!
Mine says N/A. I can’t believe they didn’t give any merit at all when I received quiet a bit from
Other schools. Would like to know if anyone here in the form actually received merit aid yet or will we be hearing about it soon? If this is it, I will be taking it off my list.
I already declined my offer. Really frustrated because same thing here. They upped tuition by over $2,000 again for next year. Although, that’s a drop in the bucket compared to the total COA. Are they trying to lower their yield rates?
Feel free to call the student FA office. I did and they got back to me within 10 minutes. They told me merit was already released.
Have no idea. This is ridiculous. I have no idea why I would go there for 80K? Not a chance.
I haven’t seen anyone actually posting that they received the merit. So I am little hopeful? How about you guys?
I haven’t either but I’m pretty sure they say it’s only like 3% who get it. I emailed the person I spoke to yesterday about getting on campus in May so I’ll post if I hear back.
S Didn’t apply for FA. But only one page in portal. Nothing about merit so I’m assuming none was granted.
3.9 U, 4.8 W
35 ACT one sitting
11 ACT writing (which I know no school cares about anymore!)
Very strong leadership and community service
ETA: only added this info bc people were inquiring if anyone got merit.
S didn’t receive merit, nor did he/we expect any. Our checkbooks were and are prepared for full pay. But haven’t made decision if Wake will be the final choice. Not likely but possibly.
So we don’t know a lot about Wake Forest. Can any of you that are planning on attending tell us what you like about the school. My daughter is from Massachusetts and plans on studying Math.
Stats 34 ACT 98 gpa. 7 ap classes. Top 5 percent of her class.
Forgot to write her stats. 98 GPA 34 ACT 7 ap classes. Top 5 percent of class.
Looks like this year is the worst for admissions and merit. I had very high hopes and I am so glad I applied to few safety schools. Our bad luck I guess.
The campus is one of the most beautiful in the country. Outstanding facilities! Small class sizes all taught by professors. Professors are allotted money to buy students meals and sit with them one on one and get to know them. Lots of collaboration between students to help each other succeed. The city of Winston-Salem is fantastic. It’s a D1 school. The families and students we’ve communicated with have been fantastic. Although some parents thought their actions to stop the spread of Covid might have been too much at times I thought they did a great job. They did all kinds of great things for the students during the pandemic. There are tents, lighted areas, fire pits, etc outside. They’ve had food trucks in, live concerts, and other events. Have their own business, law, and medical school. Currently building another med school on Charlotte. Lots of people from your neck of the woods!
Wake does not do much merit aid! They have a very few highly selective merit-based scholarships for the tippy top admits and those contenders were notified a while ago. They do have great Need-based aid for those who qualify.
Wake is a “seller” school in Jeff Selingo terms–they do not need to offer merit aid to get students, similar to all of the other schools of this caliber:
"Sellers are the “haves” of admissions. They have something to sell that consumers want, typically a brand name that signals prestige in the job market and social circles. They are overwhelmed with applications, many from top students. Their admissions officers see their role as gatekeepers. You’ve heard of these places: Stanford University, Amherst College, Yale University, among others.
The buyers are the “have-nots” in terms of admissions—although they might provide an excellent undergraduate education. They may lack national reputations or have much smaller endowments. Rather than select a class, their admissions officers must work hard to recruit students to fill classroom seats and beds in dorm rooms, so they offer coupons on tuition called “merit scholarships” no matter your family’s income"
I haven’t seen anyone get one (even though 3 percent of the class is small, you’d still think at least one person would have posted to CC/Reddit)… also since I didn’t apply for FA, I still don’t have any new updates on my portal
There are definitely some really exceptional kids out there. Even with a 4.0 UW, 4.29 W, multi sport athlete/Captain, a Fellowship, 8 AP’s, 14 Honors, and other EC’s I thought Merit might be a stretch but we shall see.
Wake does not offer much merit $ at all. The higher ranked the school, the less likely they are to offer merit, because they don’t need to. My DD 2023 RD turned down multiple merit offers from other schools to attend Wake.
I think those numbers are skewed however. They have a relatively small pool of applicants relative to their rank and size, suggesting that they either have grade deflation or committee letters are difficult to get. I have heard both on other pre-med forums.
Are you sure it’s not there? It’s 4 pages… you can’t scroll through it. You have to click through through to the next pages at the top of the document. We did not apply for need-based aid and still received the FA package e-mail saying that we, of course got nothing. The good thing about it, though is that it gives the COA (~$80k/year) to at least make an informed decision based on comparable schools where your kids might be getting full/partial merit.
We never got a FA email. So no FA portal, etc.
yeah I’m in the same boat…didn’t apply for FA but have yet to get a portal update/email from Wake
Ours is not on an FA portal. It’s on the applicant portal. LikeI said, we didn’t apply for aid, but still have a letter on the applicant saying we get nothing. May be worth a call if you don’t have that letter as it lists the merit awards on it also.
