Wake Forest Waitlist

My guess is they have filled their class of 1400. However, a few people will be accepted from the waitlist up until August due to people getting off the waitlist somewhere else and committing there.

@julewinn Seems Wake dodged a bullet. Who says ā€œbut at a real private high school- not some joke public schoolā€ or ā€œnow have to pull from waitlist where the 2nd team livesā€? Would love to know what top-tier school you will be attendingā€¦so I can steer my kids away from there.

I agree. I have 2 daughters at Wake (senior and freshman). The admissions process this year was altered, and I do not fault Wake for that. We are very happy with the school. Both my daughters attended ā€œa lame public high schoolā€. That being said, their ACT scores were 33 and 34 and could run circles around the disgruntled accepted applicant (julewinn). My senior daughter will graduate in the pre veterinary track summa cum laude (despite her poor preparation by a public school-according to julewinn). To those considering Wake, our experience has been very positive and fortunately there are not a lot of people like julewinn there. We thought enough of Wake to send our second daughter there as well. Hopefully, our youngest daughter will be a Deac as well. Good luck to all getting off the waitlist.

My freshman daughter is 3rd generation (and the 14th member of the family to attend). We obviously think very highly of the University and have had nothing but a positive experience over many decades. Oh, and all of us were lowly public school kids. Itā€™s a wonder how weā€™ve managed this far in life.

Although the tone of the post above is regrettable (ā€œjoke public school??ā€ really? ) I have to agree the price tag is steep for the product and opportunities provided. My assessment after four years is that superstar, high-stat, personable students will do well as they survive Wakeā€™s weed-out classes and are identified as deserving of the limited opportunities at Wake. Students from families with substantial resources will also do wellā€“for other reasons.

But students from more modest circumstances whose families are planning to incur significant debt to send them to Wake may want to think twice. Thereā€™s evidence that Wake does not help students from the lower SES quartile achieve nearly the same degree of upward mobility post-graduation that they would if they attended a different school. Unless youā€™re highly confident that your natural abilities will allow you to rise to the top of Wakeā€™s ultra-competitive mileu, academically and socially, you could be better off at a decent state school.

Not sure itā€™s a stretch to say that " superstar, high-stat, personable students" will do well just about anywhere. Limited opportunitiesā€¦

I think that the tone of the above entry is beyond regrettable. With that type of rhetoric, I immediately dismiss what is said. Given the disrespect to public high school education, I would surmise that the price tag for Wake Forest should not be an issue with that level of arrogance. Wake Forest is expensive, but it is in line with other excellent private schools. Wake is unique given its size and amenities.
All schools have their short comings and can be improved. I believe that academic success is predicated around being happy and being given adequate opportunity. This can be achieved at most colleges and universities. If you go to a state school, you may have several hundred students in your classes, and there may be difficulty getting classes. In the University of California system, it is hard to graduate in 4 years due to this. At Wake, this has not been an issue for my daughters. The proof in the pudding will be after graduation, and I believe that a degree from Wake may help open some doors. In general, there is a strong school spirit, and they look after their graduates. Students tend to do well in getting into good graduate programs and getting meaningful careers. Wake is not for everyone, and it is not perfect, but my daughters love the school and have thrived there. We love the school?.

I am In no way dismissing earlier arguments; however, I have to ask, does anyone believe admissions will make a second round of calls in the near future.

I GOT OFF THE WAITLIST TODAY IM GOING TO CRY FOREVER

Iā€™m in!!!

Congrats to those who got in today!

I just got in!! So happy. Stay positive everyone.

I hope this gives some hope: I got picked off the waitlist just yesterday. They told me that they would evaluate the cost like a regular student, and they did. Iā€™m paying 6k this year. No hooks, no interview. Have some hope, thereā€™s always a chance!

For those who got off the waitlist, what additional materials did you submit?

Iā€™m all in favor of people with less-positive views of Wake being allowed to have their say here, in the interest of presenting a balanced view of the school to prospective students and families.

We also, based on four years of recent experience there, might not necessarily disagree with the impression that the school seeks more overtly to monetize the educational experience than do its peers.

But Iā€™m baffled by these postsā€“you havenā€™t even attended the school? What exactly is the issue? Lack of merit scholarship money? In order to be constructive you need to articulate your concern more effectively. Also, Iā€™ve asked the moderators to take a look at these posts.

It may be best for you to move along since you really have nothing of value to add to this conversation. Not sure what made you get your feelings hurt, but doubling down on the classless comments isnā€™t helping your cause - ā€œWF is not to my standardsā€. If thatā€™s true, why even apply there in the first place?

This comment is just plain silly; I am on record here as repeatedly expressing some doubt about whether Wake really is worth the steep price tag. No one is censoring you, just encouraging you to articulate your concerns more effectively. We still donā€™t know what they are. Is all this because you got your admission packet late? It seems like a crazily over-the-top reaction to meā€¦

Everyone is allowed free thought but I am not sure what you expected the response to be when you trashed wake forest and called the people on the waitlist the ā€œ2nd teamā€ on the Wake Forest Waitlist pageā€¦

Also, itā€™s unfortunate youā€™re expressing yourself in such an unproductive way as one of your posts makes an excellent point that I myself had not thought aboutā€¦Wakeā€™s endowment is well behind that of comparable institutions at $1.3 billion.

For example, University of Richmond, a similar size school drawing from a similar applicant pool, has an endowment almost twice Wakeā€™s at $2.5 billion. Wakeā€™s comparatively more modest assets could explain the pervasive sense I had while our daughter was at Wake that the school was constantly scrambling to make money off its students, and rationing out limited amenities and resources.

Unfortunately, your very good point has gotten lost in all the invective.

julewinn i appreciate your thoughts. Eye opening for sure. The fact that parents of WF students want you banned or posts edited is laughable. I think the points of the loss of full-time MBA program, high percentage of waitlisted acceptance and confusing admissions office during covid is relevant to this board.
