Want to study NURSING...current junior and need help.

So I'm a junior in HS, Catholic school in suburban Chicago. Unfortunately, only a few of the best colleges in the country have an undergraduate nursing program. I don't think I'm quite good enough for schools like Georgetown or UPenn, but I've got somewhat of a list. (99% weighted GPA over 3 years, about a 4.2 for last semester (self-calculated), 31 ACT)

Boston College is my number 1 pick.
Other schools include U of Iowa, U of Wisconsin-Madison, U of Miami, Minnesota, Loyola Chicago, University of Illinois-Chicago...

I wish I could expand this list but so many great schools don't have nursing. (FYI I'm not interested in Michigan).

Basically what I want out of this post is any advice about these schools, or the nursing major at these schools, any personal experiences like college visits...even if you aren't into nursing, I still want you to post!

Top 15 Nursing Schools That Aren’t Hard To Get Into:

University Of Washington
UNC - Chapel Hill
University Of Pittsburgh
University Of Iowa
Case Western Reserve University

foxysoxy804, if you are completely sure about doing nursing, I would avoid looking at the prestige of the school as a whole in favor of looking at the prestige of the nursing program at the individual school. For example, in this case the University Of Illinois - Chicago may be a better choice for nursing than Yale in that field.

^^ out of state for UNC will be tough.

university, SAT 75th percentile, total bachelors graduates, number of bachelors graduates in nursing, proportion of bachelors graduates in nursing

collegehelp, your SAT and proportions of nursing (or whatever major) are not very helpful since they do not include every single school

and some schools may not have a lot of nursing majors because the program is “selective”

Wait… what makes you “not quite good enough”? Your GPA is to die for and your ACT is within range for both Georgetown and UPenn.

Apply to any school that you want to go to. I’ve seen people with lower stats than you get into Penn Nursing, just an fyi! The other schools on your list look pretty solid, but if you’re secretly craving Georgetown or Penn, then do yourself a favor and make sure to apply.

UPenn is a good nursing school but I’ve never heard of Georgetown as a top nursing school, I’d pick Washington and Pitt over Georgetown.

Thanks for all of them help. Sugar Magnolia, I’ve always figured that Penn and Georgetown require like…34 ACTs and 4.5 GPAs. But I’ll apply just in case :)

pierre0913= I totally get what you’re saying. I know that UIC has one of the best nursing programs in the entire country. But UIC is just kind of a crappy school, crappy campus and I’m really not into that.

yeah I totally understand, I probably wouldn’t go there either, just letting you know that UW and Pitt have good nursing programs when you might overlook those top nursing schools because of your high GPA

if you haven’t spent time already as a volunteer in a medical setting, I’d strongly advise you to do so your senior year in HS before you get too far down the road towards nursing. First off, you’ll get advice from those best positioned to tell you how much where you go to college matters in your nursing career – actual nurses. Second, you’ll either find out its right for you, or its not.

Anecdotally, my Bio teacher in HS made it all the way thru a nursing program before she found out she didn’t like being around sick people  She got her teaching credential.

re: collegehelp’s list

Duke and Columbia offer only a combined BS/MS in Nursing to those students who already have a BS degree. Not what the OP is looking for.

Just curious foxysoxy804. Why not Michigan? It has a top nursing school.
