benjskim, did you send a copy of the course syllabus from all courses you took? I know that it is not a requirement, but it says ‘strongly encouraged’

Jcol9- Nafmon is correct, two of my AP’s weren’t accepted because they were 4’s

Reverese - I did, it’s just to give them an idea on what courses will be transferable and what not. I finished 40 units at Sac State, but only 28 transferred (I had a couple of 3’s and 4’s on AP’s that weren’t transferred).

Thanks for info

Did you mail the syllabus, or scanned and emailed them?

I typed it up and emailed it to them.

Any idea when we may start hearing of transfer acceptances to Notre Dame? I know the website says June 1st - July 1st, but I heard if you are accepted and need to take summer school they start calling you around the 15th of May. Do you know if that is true? Thanks!

@ndmom
I received a letter from ND confirming they got all of my transfer materials and on the letter it said expect to hear anywhere from May 15th to July 1st. But I also heard the same stuff about calling to make sure you’re taking summer classes so I asked the advisor they also put in the letter and she said that they will most likely call.

Hello, does anybody know how much of an influence (if any) high school grades/standardized scores have on an application?

If applying as a sophomore then they do play a small role, but they’ll put a much high emphasis on college grades I would think. I was surprised the app didn’t ask for high school extracurriculars.

As far as the high school grades go, like bigmike said, I think they play a role but a smaller one. I set up a meeting with my transfer counselor my freshman year when I was thinking about transferring, and I don’t even think she asked me what my high school grades were. The only thing she said was that they would look at them, but they’re much more concerned about college grades. She was quite honest when she told me that I would be a stronger candidate if my college GPA was higher (it was about 3.7 at the time) but said nothing about a preferred high school GPA.

And if you’re worried that your high school grades weren’t that great, I think an improvement in your college grades will help. Or conversely, if your high school grades were really good, but your college grades aren’t good as well, then what you did in high school won’t make up for it.

And the first time around I got accepted in the summer (yes, I had to turn them down the first time), and they called me about the second week of June, I think, but you may very well hear from them before that. And I was one of those who needed to take a summer math class.

kk448 - how could they hold off so long in notifying you when you were one of those who needed to take a summer math class? I thought those that needed to take summer school would be notified earlier to give them time to enroll in summer school. What did they expect you to do at that point when most summer school classes were already in session? Do you just take the summer school class hoping that you will be accepted? Didn’t someone say that the admissions office starts calling people in mid-May, especially those who need to take a class or two over the summer?

bump. I need to know the answers to the questions ndmom13 asked as well.

lost you at “beautiful south bend”

Does Notre Dame take transfers after sophomore year (i.e., does it take junior transfers)?

Good evening,
It is very much appreciated that you are willing to answer our questions. Thank you in advance.
I have a couple questions:
- Should I re-take the SAT or take the ACT when transferring to Notre Dame from a community college? My SAT score in high school was laughable. I didn't take high school seriously and didn't care where I ended up. Which I wish I didn't, I have a completely different philosophy on education now after being in college for three weeks at a community college in south bend (Ivy Tech). Do they consider those scores once you're in college? Or even if they don't that much, will t help increase my chances of getting in?
- Can I choose not to send them my college transcript from high school? I was enrolled in a dual credit program and didn't take that seriously ended up with a 3.167 GPA and I don't want it to follow me because I know I'll get a 4.0 at Ivy Tech but if I have to use my old transcript as well it will bring it to around a 3.5.
- Do you think after my first year at Ivy Tech, if I don't get accepted into Notre Dame for Fall 2016, should I transfer to to a University (say, Holy Cross) for that year, then the year after that try to transfer to Notre Dame? Or do you recommend if I don't get in for next fall, should I stay at the Ivy Tech for another year then apply next time around?
