Scores: Okay, don't completely mutilate me, but I haven't received my scores for the SATs yet. I just took them yesterday and refuse to jinx myself by predicting them. I know this makes it difficult to chance me, but bear with me! I'm also taking the SAT II's for Literature, Biology, and German in June.

Based on these, do you have any suggestions of some schools I could go for? I'm going in undeclared and have no idea which subject area I will major in. (probably not math)

Also, would you suggest I have a great recommendation from a teacher from one of my Regular Level courses or a somewhat good recommendation from a teacher from an Honors course?

Thanks. I'll probably bump this when I get my SAT scores. I'm just really impatient! And yes, I have posted here before, but I've since sat down to think up ALL of my extracurriculars and have made some changes to my schedule. Plus I wanted to see if my stats profile thing worked. Sorry that this is long!

BUMP!!!...I just want a list of possible universities to consider. I don't really care where they are in the US. Just want some options.

I haven't been around here long, but I'd say it's a little hard to judge without any kind of test scores, and without any idea about a major (not that I have any idea what I want to major in, either).

But, uh, I guess I'd say try a few LACs for reaches?

Gah!! That's why I want my SAT scores NOW. What do you mean by LACs for reaches? My brother got into an LAC, and his stats were way worse (no honors/APs, 440 on verbal SAT, two ECs). Are you referring to the higher up ones because I was thinking of trying for places like Tufts, NYU, and Amherst as reaches.

Edit: Just realized Tufts isn't a Liberal Arts College, but you get my point.

Your SAT will help to expand the list, but how about these to start:

Penn State -- if you want a big school
Franklin & Marshall -- my son really liked the place.
Gettysburg is an excellent school.

You could consider many of the PA state schools, if you want in-state. If your SAT is high, why not the University of Richmond?

Hope that is a good start.

I love Penn State University Park(because I go there), but I think there are some other great schools that you woud want to look at as well.

Larger:
Villanova
University of Maryland
Bucknell
Pitt
Syracuse
University of Delaware

Smaller:
Dickinson

Obviously, I don't know the names of many of the LACs, but there are many good LACs in PA. Best of luck.

Those PA schools are nice, but I wanted to go out of state and kind of did want a Liberal Arts College. My PSAT was awful (179), but I had a lot of trouble with timing and missed a lot of the last few questions. I'm hoping I did better, as sometimes the PSAT isn't an accurate predictor. The only issue with timing that I had on the SAT was on the essay; all of the other sections I finished with a few minutes left.

I think I'm going to apply at Pitt and University of Maryland. NYU's a dream of mine, so can anyone else recommend some other Liberal Arts Colleges? I don't really like small schools, except for Gettysburg, and I'd like there to be over 1000 Freshman.

Maryland is a great school, but keep in mind that housing is not guaranteed after your freshman year. And the neighborhood around College Park is not the greatest-- even my dentist says that, and he works about 10 minutes away. He is a U of MD grad!

How about the U. of Mary Washington in Virginia? It's a strong LAC. Several of my students are going there in the fall. They like the academics. They also like that they are away from home but still can come home if needed. I had a former student land a part in a drama production in her first semester there.

Yes, sorry, I meant the higher-up LACs. Some other ideas are BC, Wake Forest, Vassar, Lehigh, Fordham. Maybe William and Mary and Swarthmore.

Again, it's not Liberal Arts (gah, I can't decide what I want!), but how about George Washington University? I think I may stand a chance there, if my SATs are all in the 600 range. On the PSAT, my reading and writing were in the 60s, but my math brought it way down. But I felt a lot better about the SAT math.

U. of Mary Washington does look like a good school, and I might consider visiting during the summer, just to get a feel for Virginia. My only problem is that it's kind of smallish.

Wake Forest and Lehigh don't look too bad. I might check them out.

nods They're on my "possibility" list, too.
