unless i get lots of money though, im not going
stats are definitely not as good as some people who got waitlisted... weird.
ACT: 35 superscored, 32 not =(

reallly loved my IC
everything else was pretty solid.

really disappointed....wasn't planning on accepting a spot on the waitlist cause i figured financial aid wouldn't be too great, but i figure i'll just accept it and take my chances. keep my options open

</3

waitlisted

GPA: 3.96 unweighted
Rank: 36 of 789 unweighted (our athletes are our valedictorians because they take ceramics....)
ACT: 32

My son was accepted and is thrilled.
34 ACT
3.5 from one of country’s top private schools
School doesn’t rank.
And yes, we applied for aid.
Hard to rationalize this school. Some of my son’s classmates with excellent stats got waitlisted.

Accepted (Waitlisters be glad though! I will probably not accept my offer of admission.)

34 ACT
2150 SAT
6/550 Rank
GPA (UW) 4.148/4.333

waitlisted (this was my 9th choice though so not that upset haha)

SAT 2210
ACT 34
top 5% (no ranking)
gpa 4.0 unweighted 4.70 weighted
no lack of leadership or ec’s

congrats to those accepted!!

Oh, you folks are singing that silly “strong kids got waitlisted; weaker kids got in” again. Of course, there are outliers - kids with 30 and 31 ACTs and 3.5s who get in, kids with 4.0s and 36s and 2400s that don’t. But as someone said, what else did they have to offer the overall class? We just don’t know! Schools that don’t just use numbers are to be commended!

My very strong daughter did get in 2 years ago - very high GPA and scores, good essays, recs, etc. She had no ties to the school but did visit. My son was just rejected and he should have been, even though some of the whiners on here think he’s the type that gets in - a kid with a legacy, who applied ED and was deferred, and with all-around decent stats. But even though he had a very high GPA, he didn’t challenge himself as much (btw, Wash U puts a HUGE amount of weight on high school schedule strength) and his scores were only OK (31 ACT).

Please don’t look at the kid with the 36 who got waitlisted and the kid with a 31 who got in and cry “unfair.” You just don’t have the whole picture and if you really graphed out all the stats (not just on this very limited board), you would realize your claims are really nonsense. I interview for another elite school (top 10) and we reject thousands of valedictorians, 4.0s, 36s, and 2400s. That’s just not what it’s all about. There are just too many smart, good kids and not enough slots. Please move on as my son will and get happy where you end up. You’ll be fine!

Anyone reading this, please start at post 105 – all posts before that are from 2009! lynjoy, why didn’t you reply to the current thread??? Very confusing! :)

waitlisted. Not my first choice but I’m really not happy about it. And I got into MIT early action…this is weird.

stats:
2210 sat
800 math 2, 770 chem, 740 us history
4.35 gpa weighted (valedictorian)

im really mad.

emilyyx143 proves the prevailing notion that you will never know why someone gets in or not based on the scores, GPA and even a list of accomplishments. Congratulations on MIT EA. That is very hard to get!

I suggest that we stop posting on this thread. People end up reading the first few pages, only to realize that the posts are two years old. Posted stats should be done on the 2015 RD page so that future applicants have one thread to look at .

S got waitlisted. Not surprised - low GPA, but very strong SATs. Also this school was about midway down his list so not too disappointed. Girl in his school (New England - not MA) got in.

Waitlisted!!

GPA: 3.97 unweighted
SAT I: 2330
SAT II: Math II:800 Chemistry: 780
ACT: 35
Rank: Top 5% of class
EFC: around $4000
Full IB diploma candidate
National Merit Finalist
Multiple 5s on AP tests
Excellent extracurriculars

My school is one of the top 10 in the nation. Each year, around 3 or 4 from a class of 60 are accepted. This year, all 12 of us that applied were waitlisted.

I have definitely shown interest. I’ve been on 2 individual campus visits and also attended Discovery Weekend.
