My daughter checked the status of her scholarship apps online and it said the one she submitted for Rodriguez was complete and is being reviewed by the scholarship committee. She applied regular decision. Seems strange for them to review the scholarship app BEFORE they determine whether they're going to accept you to the school.

akward313, If the scholarship committee deems your daughter a finalist, then she is automatically accepted to WashU. If she is not accepted by the scholarship committee, then she has the same odds as everyone else who applied RD.

Rainmaker that's good to know. So RD finalisted will know their admission decision before March 26.

Semi finalists will hear towards the end of February. For all practical purposes, you can consider an invitation to the interview weekend as good as an acceptance. It is a great all expense paid weekend where you will meet some fabulous people.

Great! I took my daughter to visit the school in October and we fell in love with the campus.

if the interview invitation is as good as an acceptance, when should we hear about those? still the end of february?

Like my previous post stated - towards the end of February.

Although the number of named merit scholarships is limited, don't give up hope that you won't get other scholarship money.
I know a WashU grad (who also went to medical school there) who got merit aid even though he was not a designated "scholar" like a Danforth, etc.
If you read the scholarship brochure carefully, I think it does hint that there are other merit awards available besides the full tuition ones.

All of the merit only awards, with the exception of the Danforth, are listed on the website. Many of these can be either full tuition or half tuition. Some awards also include a stipend, in addition to tuition. A student can be awarded more than one merit award. Additional scholarships are available, but these are based on a combo of merit and need. Students can also be awarded a combination of merit only and merit/need awards or grants. By using these combinations, it is possible to end up with a total "free ride".

Two questions:

If your scholarship is complete does the website immediately say "your application is being reviewed by the scholarship committe," or does that actually mean they've started to look at your application?

and

Does anyone happen to know how competitive the Fitzgibbon Scholarship usually is?

As for the first question, I would assume that both are true. The site displays that message as soon as your scholarship application is complete, but then it is probably soon sent to the committee. No, that doesn't mean that they are literally reading your application AS you stare at the screen.

My son was applied for but was not awarded any of the named scholarships. He did recieve a "Dean's Scholarship" which paid close to half of his tuition. We were never specifically told that the scholarship was based upon need as well as merit but I suspect that need was one component.

thanks tumbletiger, lol i get that it doesn't literally mean they're looking at it at this very moment, I just meant have they started reviewing it or is it buried under a mountain of paperwork. Doesn't really matter though, I won't hear anything for a while either way.

M'sMom - You are right in your evaluation. "Deans Scholarship", along with quite a few others are based on a combo of merit & need. There is definately a merit component to this scholarship.

How will semifinalists be notifed? Phone call? Email? Mail?

hopper11, based on what others have already posted/someone I know that got accepted into the Danforth program and denied for an engineering scholarship, you will be called at the end of February by someone saying that you are being invited to interview. Otherwise, you will receive notification in the mail sometime in March.

Both the people that get calls and the people that don't will end up getting letters in the mail, but if you don't get a call, most likely, you didn't get it.

ahh man, i'm gonna be so anxious as the end of february approaches

Any ideas of when WU will notify freshman applicants whether or not they were accepted?

My daughter has applied.

Is your son applying as a freshman?

Do you get considered for these "other" merit scholarships even if you didn't formally apply for one of the main scholarships?
