Merit only - No; merit/need combo - yes

Does anyone know if parents are invited/allowed to go to the Annila Rodriguez scholarship weekends or are the events for the selected students only? Do the students stay for the 3 nights with other students in a dorm room or are they put up in a hotel?

Could any scholarship finalists post their SAT score? I was way too exhausted from the college app process to apply for scholarships, but I'm curious as to how difficult it is to receive one.

I'm sure that the scholarship process entails a holistic view of the applicant so an SAT score should not be too indicative of your possible chances at a scholarship...

Do they really believe that on your planet?

excuse me? I never said it wasn't indicative at all, just not the deciding factor.

acolombianp28 (page 28? lol) do you care to post your stats? I understand if you don't want to, but if you could it would be helpful!

haha actually the a and p in there are my initials and 28 is my lucky number. anyway, my stats are here, I think the third post:

@KWMAMA: from my phone call, I gathered that we would be staying on campus in a dorm room. Whether it is with other finalists, I do not know, though I got the impression we would be staying with hosts (winners from years previous).
@roflc0pter: my SAT was 2360, however I agree with acolombianp28 in that SAT scores are pretty insignificant past a certain point, as I know several applicants who had higher scores than me and were not selected.

Merit scholarsips are not based only on stats. Great stats are only a start, but certainly not the final finish. It is like building a mosaic - it is the hope, that these are the future leaders on campus and in life. Not always easy to identify - but one can only give it your best shot.

Candidates at Scholars weekend will usually room with past recipients of the same awards. Remember to bring a sleeping bag or similair, since I doubt anyone will give up their bed for a candidate - no matter how great they are.

Get an air matress with a 110VAC air pump. Put the sleeping bag on it. Or just use blankets and sheets on the air matress.

This is wisdom. I know of that which I speak.

KWMAMA - parents are invited to attend the weekend. Just don't plan on seeing your student most of the time. All of the students have a very full program the entire time. Between activities and interviews. You will see them at the airport upon arrival and when it is time to leave. That being said, it is a great opportunity for a parent to get to know WashU, just plan on doing it on your own - without your kid (who will have a very full schedule). There is a wide selection of hotels in Clayton - some have transportation to campus and others might require the availabilty of a car.

So, have the calls already gone out? In other words, if no call by now - denied this scholarship?

^^i second the above question.

Scholarship status has been updated online, so I imagine all of the calls have been made.

If I am a finalist for the danforth scholarship does that mean that i'm guaranteed admission?

I've heard many refer to it as an "unofficial acceptance letter," so I guess congratulations are in order for you. haha

Hi, so does the status show 'accepted' or 'denied' online for scholarship status?

yeah it says accepted or denied.
sighs denied...

go in to check your status
then click on scholarships and fellowships
from this page, it will be very self-explanatory. it will tell you which scholarships you have been selected to be a finalist for, and which scholarships you have not been selected for.
