Portal just updated, no luck for me

Portal says not selected as a Finalist for the merit scholarships.

Did that include academic division scholarships?

It says: At this time, all merit-based scholarship and fellowship applicants chosen as finalists have been notified by their respective selection committee. Unfortunately, you have not been selected as a finalist.

Mine too, and also says that it does not affect my application nor financial aid and to check for April 1st my status update. Does your portal say the same?

Yes it does

Not selected either, as expected.

Everyone, do not give up hopes. Sometimes not being selected to be a finalist is fine. You may still end up with more awards than one of finalists.

Thank you…Yes, she has worked extremely hard to be a competitive candidate. Congratulations to you and good luck on your interviews.

Do you mean you could still end up getting need-based awards? Because I thought they said all merit awards are now spoken for.

Yes, that was what I meant.

Do not give up hope if you filed FAFSA/CSS and you may be surprised to see the final numbers.

I’m just curious what happens if a student who is awarded a merit-based scholarship/fellowship ultimately does not choose to attend WashU. Can another student who commits to WashU then receive it?

I have not heard anyone being on the wait-list for scholarships, so I guess schools will use that money to buy lunches for faculties… :joy:

Good question. My guess would be that they have some kind of flexibility built in. LIke over the years stats , similar to admitted students/matriculation, Also thinking majority who get it do go, though half/full+2500 makes a huge difference, if you ask me. So , say, they award 40 if they need 30. And if 35 or 25 end up attending, so be it. Just a guess though, but don’t think someone who was not a finalist has a chance for that scholarship. And I have no clue what percentage of finalists get at least 1/2 award , though I think it’s high, but is it different this year with virtual events? Also to keep in mind that some finalists are getting financial aid anyway.
