Stern, I think, is the more well-known and well-developed undergrad b-school (its study abroad programs are amazing), but WashU as a school is warmer and reputedly more friendly. (I was able to visit NYU but not WashU, but from my pretty mild experience at NYU I was able to make an assumption about Olin).

Anyone have any advice or article links to give? This is the WashU board, so why Olin over Stern? The only factor (besides weather/reputed friendliness) I can think of is the ability to double major easily -- although really, one can double major at Stern as well.

Another dilemma: WashU (if not strictly business) versus Duke?

i just wanna say washu's environment is just AMAZING! i went down for their olin spotlight weekend and it was awesome. i felt like they REALLY wanted me to go to their school. not to mention bunches of free swag. they flew me down (for free) and then proceeded to transport me to the school free as well. food was really good too. saturday night culminated with a really nice steak and whitefish dinner (i asked if this was typical and was informed that there is a dining establishment on campus that does steak). i also got free tshirts, washu cookies (again, VERY good), a nifty monogrammed laptop bag, folder/binder thinger, ball, cup and candy, lanyard, and a flashdrive with pix and other information just arrived in the mail today. oh yes, and in addition to breakfast, lunch, and dinner and some snacks everyone had $6.50 in meal card points. so they definately spent a decent amount of money on pampering us BEFORE we even commit to their school. and they did this for 60 people. but that really isn't anything compared to the 500 kids they're flying down for the multicultural this weekend.

i got into stern as well but was unable to attend their university day since it was the same weekend as my washu trip. i know someone who went and wasn't too into it. she said the ppl were kinda aloof but i heard other ppl say the stern dean is amazing and really takes part in their undergraduate learning.

i was like really into stern when i got in but after going to washu for the business weekend, sterns kinda been pushed into the background. yea u can score internships easily but i met a girl @ washu who has a summer internship with fricken MTV and another girl who should be graduating this spring w/a bachelors but found a way to get a masters in finance. kill 2 birds w/one stone lol! and now she's working for KPMG, a really big consulting company and she's had the offer before she even graduated. so the opportunities are there. also, i figure i'm gonna live in nyc eventually, i think i can wait a few years. and it'd be even better since i wouldn't be at a club at 2 in the morning worrying about an econ final the next day.

Thanks for the reply, mich_GIRL88! I couldn't go to the Olin Spotlight weekend, but I'm still considering if I can visit WashU within the next... oh, week and a half.

I've heard about the good food at WashU, and the gift bag sounds AWESOME. (Ok, I really regret not being able to get the t-shirts...)

Did the students say anything about what schools they were comparing before they decided on WashU, or whether Stern was an option for them? Did you talk to anyone who's doing a double major?

no problems!! i hope i didn't sound too much like an adcom, it was just that amazing!

don't worry about the tshirts if u desperately want one, i'll mail u mine lol. they were hideous. i got a small and it was short and obscenely wide. the design was okay but the shape of the shirt was just awkward.

i heard u get a really nice little care package from washu in the mail after u send int he deposit. contents include a tshirt, key-chain, and window cling. there may be more stuff but i dunno.

the people were all REALLY nice!!! and the professors were great too. one of them is named tzachi zach (like marky mark lol) and does great borat impressions. and then have this center for experiential learning thing that was like practical applications of what you learn in class. the environment was stimulating in that all the people there u know are super brilliant but its not so cutthroat like nyu stern or umich ross.

depends on whether you want to be i-banking or finance. Those are definately tops at stenr in my oppinion and I am a business student at WashU. There were definately programs for Goldman, Bear Stearns, and Morgan, where they wouldn't consider you if you weren't from STern, Wharton, Harvard, Yale, Brown, etc. Yea its legalistic and whatnot, but its reality.

BTW, by way of experience, lifestyle, food, campus, resources, technology, and support I'd say WashU anyday. I am tremendously happy with choosing WashU, but it does suck that many NYC firms don't take the time to consider people outside of the East Caost Bubble as easily. Nonetheless, I know many Washu(Olin) Grads that go into I banking and find success on Wall Street. My best friend is full time at Goldman next year and he's the fifth person that I know to do so.
