Gillian2011, hey again…did you get a volunteering opportunity yet?

keyboardist, I am also applying, but my stats are not that great. Not a single person from our school, I don’t think, has ever applied to MedStart or even known about it. Also, rarely do students go to Ivy leagues from my school, so what I have concluded is that I have a very small chance to get in to the program. Btw where are the people you know from and how are they liking the program?

They’re mostly family friends, and they really seem to like it. Exceptions are distance and the environment as I mentioned before, since we’re located in metro Detroit. At least there’s the option of commuting…

Private message me if you’d like to know my stats; I don’t feel too comfortable putting them here :)

How is the top 50 picked? Is it mostly objective factors (GPA, rank, SAT I/ACT) or is it something else? Any ideas or insight from your friends, etc. that are in the program?

Indian11-yes. I volunteer at a family practice. Its kind of difficult because it is only open weekdays 9-5 and I’m in school until two, but I was able to get twenty hours in in the past two weeks, which is good with my busy schedule.
Keyboardist- yes I applied for general admission. It took about a month to get my reply back.
So you’re a girl too? Are there typically more guys than girls who get in to the program or does it all very?
I come from a very small school. I hope that won’t put me at a disadvantage. Only three or four people in the history of my school have applied to Wayne State, let alone the Medstart program.

mrsoccer: I think that you could put everything into one envelope. Since they don’t specify, I’m sure that you could do either, but I would put it all in one envelope…that way its all together. I’m going to the informational meeting today, hopefully they’ll say something about it…either that or I’ll ask.

Hey amigos, I am also planning to apply to MedStart and it is my topchoice!. Unfortunately, I got a 28 on my ACT. I know I met the minimum requirements for the program, but do you think I should send my scores and application in now, or wait till I get my December scores and then send in my application? Ayudame porfavor!!! thank you.

I would wait until you get your December test results back. Or at least try. If they don’t show up by January 5th or 6th then you will have to send in your old results. For now though I would just hang tight and wait for them to come. I would also try looking at the results online, they are posted sooner than your results are sent out in the mail.

I live in Virginia, and I’m really planning on attending a college near home (Namely the east coast).

I know that for Medical School I’ll have to make a sacrifice for a school and probably go somewhere else, but I’d rather spend 4 years away than 8.

Plus, I don’t know if I’ll be able to go for the interview…and I know that they don’t do interviews over webcam like some other places.

Am I making a stupid decision based on distance issues?

I dont think you’re making a stupid desicion Thispakistanigir. You have to be comfortable at a school like this. If you would rather be close to home, dont apply. Its going to be a tough school without the pressures of missing your family and such. But either way, the desicion goes back to you…do you feel comfortable being away from home?
