@medstart1993: Wow, you have a REALLY high chance…I already know 2 people in the top 15 who don’t want to go to Wayne.

@wrathstar: It’s okay, there still a bit of hope =) think positive, and no matter what happens, you’re still awesome and you will be a terrific doctor ;)

I’m number 8…ahhhhhh…whatever happens will happen. I’m still going to go to Wayne, Detroit’s my love <3 lol

To any of the top 15 ppl, do you think you will for sure go to Wayne?
Also, if you decide to reject, are you going to wait until May 1st to tell them?

Just anxious, since I’m pretty high on the wait-list
:)

@ilovelost – Nancy emailed me a couple of weeks ago saying that she had sent my University Scholarship contract, but I only got it in the mail yesterday, so I’m guessing that it’ll probably be here sometime in the next 10 days or so.

@viggyram – You’ve done a really great job, and I like your spirit. I’ve heard the waitlist moves down quite a lot some years, so I think you still have a fair shot. :)

I guarantee that won’t be the case. These kids all applied to ivy leagues and bs/md programs across the country. We’ll find out more after April 1st.

Agreed with ilovelost. Ivy League decisions come out on the 30th, and I don’t think people will start declining offers until mid-April or so. If anyone turned down MedStart this early I’d be pretty shocked unless they had a very good reason for it. People don’t have everything in front of them to make a decision right now. That’s why no one has turned it down yet, but I guarantee people will, especially this year with the switch to 30 MCAT. People with either take Ivys, take Michigan, take MSU or another school and realize that a 3.6 and 32 MCAT elsewhere will get them into a med school for sure anyways.

I disagree w viggyram that kids would take msu or umich over medstart. Thats just stupid. Even w a 30 mcat, these kids usually get above that. At least theyre making us work hard. Plus, the research opportunities available at wayne are far greater than those at umich or msu. Youre respected a lot more at wayne than those at other schools especially because of medstart celebrity status. The community enviromment is awesome. Waynes med schools pretty and we all know it doesnt matter where you go to med school that determines how successful youll be. The residency you receive does that. Wayne does a good job of getting their kids into good residency programs too. So thats a minor point. I do agree w vig on ivy league opportunities though.

Also itd be dumb if they thought a 3.6 and a 32 elsewhere could get them into med school anyway. Why leave wayne then? You only need a 30? Thats contradicting what you said. Plus you have an option of applying out afterwards. If you did have higher mcat scores and gpa while at medstart, you can go to the bigger colleges. Medstart is still a great option. If youre not willing to work hard at getting 30, youre in a world of hurt when preparing for step 1s. Thats ten times harder i heard.

I agree with Viggyram completely. Medstart may seem like a good program at first glance- decent med school full ride… but once u start dissecting the program itself- look at the minimum GPA, MCAT requirement and 4 year undergrad requirement it seems worthless. 30 MCAT is just waay to high, I know people with 24s and 26 getting into Wayne through the traditional route. And it also seems like Medstart kids are really “enjoying” life even though they are in combined med- they are still doing research, getting good grades and studying for MCATs. So why put in all the effort at an undergraduate institution that is in worst city in the US, when you can put in the same work at any other undergrad institution and get into another med school? Sure you have a med school as a “back up” but it isnt really a back up unless u study hard for MCAT, get good grades, research volunteer…etc

Wow, Viggy…I don’t even know what to say.
You definitely come across as VERY arrogant and also very bitter about your wait-list status.
In earlier posts, you indicated that MedStart was your first choice and you seemed really excited to go there. But now you’re comments towards the school have a negative vibe! …bitter much?

I just have to say that I would never ever want someone as self-centered and egotistical a you to be my physician.

Hello viggy, It is not good to be bitter. You lost an opportunity to be part of a wonderful program. Nancy Galster must have read all your bitter posts. I am sure she is not going to consider you any more that she got to see your dark side. Iam a medstart student. You have no idea how good it is to know that I have a guaranteed admission even if I do not get 32 MCAT.

Please note all medstart students are IVY calibre and we chose Medstart for guarantee and none of us regret the opportunity. From the 2011 medstart class 4 acquired admission to UMICH , 1 to Harvard,2 to Chicago Pritzker,1 to Mayo and more coming on our way. We love the program and all the elite opportunities we get

Viggy, What matters most in undergrad, med school, throughout residency and in life is your attitude. No matter where you are in life , for you to be presented with opportunities you have to have humility and a positive attitude. If you guys have any specific questions about medstart I can answer them for you.

I remember you now, you are the applicant from Windsor? Why would medstart consider you when we had 365 applications from American citizens? We have 3 canadian students in Medstart-they are more than IVY Calibre with awesome personalities and wonderful traits. You are nothing compared to them and I bet they will be going to Ivy medschools. they tremendously contributed to the Wayne community.
