we need to know. nosotros tenemos que poder or something

this question is for m4m or screaming eagle or any other cadet / grad.
how many physical exams have you had? how many during beast? how many during plebe year? i am curious cuz i'm in a limbo now seeing how I'm in a gap between tricare and whutnot and basically,

right now, i don't have medical insurance- and I'm kinda scared that if I hurt myself seriously, I could be ****ed. it's kinda a weird situation, but its not good. I can't get med coverage through my parents. my mom is dead and my dad is ???. I will be a part of '10, and I wonder how medical care works.

any comments, insights are appreciated.

greenapple: and you thought all my posts were low quality

lol, i would never think such a thing ;). once you get to r-day you should be covered by tricare-prime which is 100% coverage on military instillations.

what happens during summer or when I'm off post and I get into a car accident?

You're still covered, so long as you remain enrolled.

ADA, if you're talking about like real, actual physicals, I've never had one since DODMERB. You get a dental and hearing test during beast, that's all I remember. The Airborne physical was basically going in with a doctor and they ask you if anything has changed on your medical status since it was last updated; your commisioning physical is the same way. If what you're asking is do you get a two finger MEPS special, the answer would be no.

As far as insurance goes, Tricare should have you as long as you stay enlisted. If you get discharged prior to coming to West Point, you might be hosed during that time period. Once you get here, Tricare has you again.

Dont know if that was what you were looking for, I'll clarify more if you need.

If you get sick during the school year, you can go in for sick call at 0600 and they'll take care of you. This is only if you can't go to class. They also have same day appointments if you can/need to go to class, but want to get an issue taken care of. Other medical issues are taken care of through appointments, which are normally only a week or two out. Dental can be a month out, so keep that in mind. They'll clean your teeth every year, and give you a checkup every 6 months. If you hurt yourself playing sports or something, you're in luck. Of the Army's 10 or so sports medicine doctors, 6 of them are here. Is this what you needed?

on leave, doctors visits are 50% covered unless at a military post. ER 100%

yo yall, thanks for the info. what about eye exams? do they ever look in your eyes or inside your ears?

two finger meps special? try those duck walk jumping jacks fo' dang!

Duck walk? That must be a guy thing.

Eye exams are annual, and you have to have one before graduation. Those are pretty easy to get too, just call them. They'll also measure you for contacts, if you ask.

Hearing exams I know are a go for yearling year or cow year, and the last time I went in, they told me what my loss percentage was from my DODMERB physical (ear infections as an adult are awful).

Sports medicine over at Arvin is great, they do walk-ins (hobble in's?) every morning and afternoon, and they'll fix you up pretty good with braces, Motrin, and strengthening exercises.

We also have a free OTC meds pharmacy. If you're sick and don't want to drop $20 on brand name meds, they've got Imodium AD, off name Robitussin, Benadryl, Tylenol, ibuprofen, anti nausea, anti emetic, cough drops, and the like. All you have to do is grab a form from the health clinic, fill it out, and present it with your ID card to the pharmacist on duty. That's also where they hand out free condoms, normally artistically arranged in strips of five in a vase. Funniest floral arrangement ever. Sometimes there's chap stick out too. You'll be issued sunscreen and insect goop during Beast, don't forget to rub it all over those freshly shaved scalps. ADA, don't discount the summer heat, here, either. I went to Bliss for CTLT last June and although it's hot there, I think it's hotter here with the humidity. I spent two years in Kuwait, so I know what hot is. By the way, what unit are you with?

prefer not to disclose here. look what happened to wpcadet or whutever his name is- but the patch has 5 trees, if you know what i mean

yeah, tricare is the biggest ponzi scheme- it needs to be overhauled...

oh and they give out condoms? is that breeding ground for frat? i dont understand

ADA better safe than sorry with the condoms right? :)

Some cadets take them as pranks, you hide them in all your roommates stuff before SAMI for example. It's also equality, birth control in many forms is free for female cadets, so you should provide the same courtesy for the male cadets. The current USCC Surgeon has a pretty good demo of the effectiveness of condoms and their stretchyness...completely indescribable, but something to look forward to during Reorgy week. Most colleges provide free condoms, it's not like you can stop sex by saying "Don't do that."

I fully understand your reticence in disclosing where you're from in an open forum, but yes...5 trees I get. Be prepared for a little light hazing for being ADA, they're not looked upon very favorably here for some reason.

I was part of 11th Brigade while I was there, 5-52. It was an interesting experience. Just wanted to know if you knew any of my buddies. I had an awesome time out there!

I'm sure the condoms are just for putting over rifle barrels when you're in the water :). They probably are camo colored. :)

also use them for needle decompression :)

nobody appreciated how hooah ADA is. dang. in a few years- there probably wont be any more ADA

ada as in air defense?

i hated meps...

id be scared of you if you enjoyed it
