This kid in my dorm building has some Japanese sword. I haven't actually seen it, because quite frankly I think the guy is a little creepy, and don't want to be near him. Anyways, I heard him talking about it on his cell phone to his friend, and overheard the dude showing it to his friends, and waving it around pretending like he was some ninja or something. What should I do? Does Cornell have some kind of policy against this?

LOL. Swords are cool, but it is against the rules to have a "sharpened" sword in a dorm room.

Honestly, if he's a creepy kid, my advice would be to just stay away from him. Far away. Especially when he's plastered. That's when things really get dangerous.

Is there some number I can call? I don't know the guy's name, and would obviously not want to deal with him directly.

poor guy, he will loose his sword........ I pity him.

It's a violation of campus code:

II. VIOLATIONS

It shall be a violation of these regulations:

.
C. To possess, carry, or use firearms, including rifles and shotguns, ammunition, explosives, or other dangerous weapons, instruments, or substances in or upon University premises ...

Use this form to report it:

Oh god, I really don't want to be the one that reports it, but still...

Don't do it. It's decoration, a lot of people have things like that, you aren't going to get murdered in the middle of the night, and it's totally lame to be reporting the kid.

Please tell me you're not one of those losers who thinks it's cool to have weapons around.

why don't you leave the kid alone?

seriously, dont flatter yourself thinking he;s gonna attack you
report him or dont, either way he;s not gonna "go after you"
i personally think you shouldnt report him bc you seem like a real uptight b****

"i personally think you shouldnt report him bc you seem like a real uptight b****"

How is that a reason? Is it not against the rules? They have them for safety. Sure, you can believe something is just play until some accident happens or it gets out of hand.

I don't know. At this point, I'm going to wait and see what happens. If this weapon thing is brought up in any way again when I'm around, I'll have to do something.

Oh, and SANGEL, I'm not flattering myself by being concerned for my safety.

Wait a bit longer and see if he is dumb for a momment or stupid for awhile. The difference? One time goofing off and showing his friends does not make him a danger. Continued branishment of the sword means he's stupid and should be dealt with by the school.

ballerina, your response proves my point

Concerned for you safety? Why? That is completely unfounded. That just sounds overly obsessive, if you ask me. If I have a sharpened pencil within a 1 m range of you, would you also consider that a threat to your safty? After all it is a sharp object...... Do you see what I mean? I think you just need calm down and enjoy life.

I would consider a sharpened pencil more dangerous and threatening than one of those sword-collectibles. Everyone knows the pen(cil) is mightier than the sword!

You guys are not helping the situation. Instead, you're mocking ballerina for her concern for own safety. Think about it: swords were not allowed in high school, why should it be different in college? They have these rules for a reason, and possession of any type of weapon is against school policy.

the difference is the fact that students dont live on high school grounds. its harder to tell someone that what they keep in their room offends you when you could easily just never go to this guys room...its not like he is taking the sword to the classroom and forcing your highness to be threatened by it. he is keeping it, as a collectible, in his home.

Oh yes, I believe there is a PAN organization in Princeton (Princeton Against Ninjas). Why don't you notify them about the problem huh? :)

I mean Cornell oops...CAN (Cornell Against Ninjas) , my bad :D

ballerina, you could try sending an anonymous query to Uncle Ezra. http://ezra.cornell.edu/ Don't give your e-mail address, but make sure to mention the name of your dorm, as in "I live in Mews [or Jameson or Dickson or wherever], and there's this guy in my hall who has a sword..." Say that the situation makes you nervous but that you don't know whether it's against the rules and whether you should report it to someone.

I suspect that a copy of your message will end up in the Residence Hall Director's in-box within 24 hours and that the dorm staff will take it from there.
