Wearing Umich clothing at Umich?

Is it common?
Do a lot of people wear Umich clothing or do they just wear name brands?

It is common.

very common

Is it cold there? Do people wear a lot of fur hoodies and parkas?

Well, it gets cold at some point… As of right now, it’s fairly warm… About 60 degrees. It gets down to below freezing eventually in the winter. During the summer/spring months it’s quite hot.

Fur hoodies and parkas, depending on where you are from, may or may not be enough cover in the winter months.

From my visit and from what I’ve seen via I’m Shmacked, etc. it’s more common than pretty much any other school I’ve ever seen. People love wearing spirit wear at Michigan and I don’t blame them (the maize and blue look amazing for clothes).

It’s common, but you also see those wearing other college clothes, mostly on grad students who went elsewhere for undergrad. So they have combined loyalty.

It does get cold, but I can tell you it doesn’t take some superhuman effort of will to survive a Michigan winter. This isn’t Alaska. Definitely need an umbrella though! Rode a bike yesterday and oh my that was a mistake.

I live near Ann Arbor and I wouldn’t exactly go as far as to call the winter coats “parkas”, but you will need something warm if this is a typical winter.

Okay one more question guys - I’m sorry.
Do people at Umich carry regular bookbags? Or do they just carry books in their hands or like gymsacks?

Yeah, backpack for not only books but storing anything useful you might forget otherwise. Things like no2 pencil, calculator, keys, wallet, umbrella, blue book (to write exams). You wouldn’t carry all that by hand.

Alright thanks. What about just to class though, like just walking around campus to get to class, do people carry big bags?

There are 40,000 students walking around campus during the week, so there are many different forms of carrying things around that people use. Do what you like best, why should something like carrying books around be determined by what other people do?

They blast the heat in the dorms. Bring light sweaters/t shirts to layer. Rain/snow boots, leather gets destroyed when it is wet out because they drench the sidewalks with salt. Definitely a raincoat and umbrella. Yes, it is cold but get a lightweight heavy coat (Northface long coats very popular with the women), you won’t want to be carrying a heavy coat around. Sneakers/flip flops in the warm weather.

Just a normal backpack will do for just about any situation. Same exact one i used thru high school. It’s not about conformity, but convenience. I forgot to mention most bring a netbook/laptop to class. No way I’m carrying that by hand. Are you actually basing your decision on this? It’s the same at every college.

@steellord321 LOL no sir. I was just wondering what I should bring LOL.

Oh sorry, just seemed early for anyone to have committed. Forgot about winter transfers.

It beats the hell out of doing laundry! Just buy another sweatshirt!

Sounds like my kid. 8-10 sweatshirt hoodies, assorted “free” tee-shirts, a couple long-sleaved flannel shirts, jeans and shorts. Nothing fancy — he is obviously not a frat-kid. Still uses his high school backpack to carry his laptop around. I pay his $50K tuition/fees. He is on his own dime for his clothes and everyday expenses

@steellord321 yeah no worries XD.
