they let you log on and they tell you all of this stuff but after you read page after page of new student stuff, you still don't know if you are accepted. seems they should do what other schools do and not show you the new ?
sounds crazy, I know, but you read it all and get your hopes up and then realize everyone going to the website can see it, too. does this make sense to anyone?

yeah, I get it but they are reading all this stuff about us and they aren't thinking about how crazy all of us are right now.

Guess this is a test to our endurance? Or maybe all of us are worried and should just chill?

i don't understand......i saw my defferal letter online...

so should we be able to see the decision online?

how? there is nothing posted to my email since 1/27 thanking me for my midyear grades.

vatownsend- i think maddog is talking about the link that says "new students click here for FAQs" or whatever it says.

i still don't have my decision either. i want it :(

I want my letter, too. even if it is not what i want to hear. at least i could move on! know i should not put all of my hopes into one school but it is such a good school. and actually the blue matches my blue green eyes and blonde hair....sad, i know.

you log-in to your account and it tells you...FYI if they asked for midyear grades that means you got deferred

what if I have a pid number already. do they give one of those to everyone that applies. I did not apply ea so i could not be deferred. denied maybe!

If you applied regular then why would you expect your decision now???? LOL u guys are so weird....regular decisions are made by march 31st

guess i am just dying to know! Most all other schools have already accepted me so I guess i got a little used to instant acceptances!

prodj88, are you serious about the "midyear grades-deferred" thing, or are you just saying that off your head? and you're talking about early applicants, right?

man, this wait for 3/31 is KILLING me... like vatownsed, i just want to know if i got accepted or not so that i can just move on. GAR!

maddog222, im in the same position as you... it's too bad that UNC isn't rolling admissions

Yeah I applied early and then got deferred, in the deferred letter they said please send in midyear grades if possible.... they didn't ask for midyear grades for all my friends who got rejected or accepted

but for all of us who didn't apply early...they still only ask for the midyear grades of only some regular applicants, not all...

how do you know they don't ask for all?

Sorry, but HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT THEY DON'T ASK FOR MID-YEAR GRADES FOR ALL RD? I actually called them in Jan when they asked for mine and was told by an admissions guy that it was a standard email that went out?

I applied regular decision. Maybe it would be helpful here if only REGULAR decision people that were asked for mid-year would respond and let us know?
Then we might get a clear picture of who was asked and who was not? I am interested in all of you EAs but your decisions don't apply to this?

Also, everyone that applied EA from my school go denied except for one that was deferred? I am the only one that applied reg so I have nothing to compare it to? I am almost starting to think that it is close to impossible to get in oos ea?

And NCGUY, are you oos or from NC?
MY college counselor at my hs said he had not heard from any other student at our school that they requested the mid-year grades? Do they look at them as a way of deciding borderline apps?

yes, I am from NC...

for the midyear grades part--- I know this b/c only some regular applicants get the message on their personal website, and because many people in my school applied to UNC...some were requested for midyear grades, others weren't. Because of the large number of students concerned about this, my school's guidance department sent out an e-mail clarifying it.

It is a standard e-mail in the sense that every applicant who gets that email receives the same message:
"Greetings from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We invite you to submit your midyear grades to us online by logging into your UNC homepage at www.admissions.unc.edu with your confidential username and password. Please do not ask your guidance counselor to submit your midyears on your behalf. Instead, we request that you submit your own grades by February 10 and make sure that the grades you report are both accurate and complete.

We appreciate your continued interest in Carolina and wish you every success in the months ahead.

Sincerely,

Office of Undergraduate Admissions

I can't say if being asked to send your midyear grades means you're on the borderline, a likely admit, or a likely rejection. I'm guessing it's a positive thing- they are leaning towards admitting you but want to make sure you aren't slacking off senior year. But that's just a guess.

The reason why I think this is because if you were on the borderline, they would want definitive information that would either push you over the edge or not. That means they would want a REAL transcript, counselor's statement, etc. that other schools ask for in their required midyear reports. By trusting you to self-report your grades, they will verify them in your final transcript at the end of the year... The only time they ask for that final transcript is if YOU ENROLL THERE after being accepted...let me know if this logic makes sense or if I am just blabbering ;)

this is the most positive info I have gotten and I really appreciate it.
Still on pins and needles but they are sticking as much!

Actually, my cc was surprised when I told him that unc asked for my mid year because they had not asked anyone else that he knew of. I am going to consider it positive just cause it makes the next 4 weeks bearable!

The request for mid-year grades for RD students is because alot of counties in North Carolina had not finalized 2nd semester grades by the RD Deadline. I know in my county (Forsyth) we were not able to receive transcripts with finalized 2nd Semester grades until the first week of February. I am guessing that UNC admissions wants students from these counties that are slightly behind schedule to receive a fair evaluation compared to those students who already had 2nd Sem. grades on their transcripts.
