i attend a local CC near davis and plan to xfer to UCD this fall. i will be missing 2nd semester o-chem but i want to finish the series at my CC so i will be commuting to davis and my cc for the 1st semester/quarter of this fall. has anyone been in this situation before? i heard the UCs force you to be full-time and i dunno if i can handle the quarter system on top of finishing o-chem( since everyone tells me the quarter system is on a different level than semester ). also, like how would i go about putting this situation or commenting it on the UC app? would i have to change the dates on my app too like instead of finishing at my CC in august (if i plan to take summer school), am i going to change it to like december? ugh please help...

You wont put this on your app. You wont know now if you will be allowed to do it. After you are formally enrolled at ucd, you will have to meet with your counselor and petition to do this. You will have to have a good reason to do that too, or your petition will most likely be denied.

Commuting between schools sucks, btw. Last summer, the end of my CC’s spring classes (quarters) overlapped with the first two weeks of summer classes (semesters), and it was kinda a nightmare to deal with two full schedules and a commute. Sounds like you’d only have one extra class and a shorter commute, but still could be tricky.

I’d say take the courses at your UC. Worst case scenario, you somehow get stuck taking two classes instead of one, but since you’re going semesters to quarters that’s less likely. You’ll also have better professors, no paperwork/articulation troubles, and you won’t have to try to schedule around two different schools/systems.

Is second semester organic chemistry offered in the summer at your CC?

If you are missing second semester organic chemistry, you likely need to take second and third quarter organic chemistry at UC Davis, possibly repeating about 5 weeks’ worth of material (out of 30 total weeks of instruction).

I don’t think the UCs force you to be full time…I do know that UC Davis wants transfers to be full time 1 year before but this was a TAG requirement and they were very liberal about it.
