Weird GPA System screw with Chances?

At our high school, the GPA system largely differs from that of other local schools in that one A- lowers the GPA from a 4.0 to a 3.918. Although I have mostly been receiving A's, I recently received an A- that has lowered my GPA.

However, were I at another local schools, this would still be a 4.0

How much of a difference would this make on my transcript and any colleges viewing them? Is it true that I can send a letter explaining my transcript? Basically, what kind of disadvantages is this system going to bring me in the future?

it wont mess with it, if your school ranks, that way they can tell who is where, etc
My school doesnt rank so we screwed if we used your system

you realize an A- is normally a 3.66 at a lot of schools so consider yourself lucky

4.0 to 3.918? Seriously, you're posting about THAT?

One A- (with the rest As) won't "screw with your chances". Seriously.

It was two A-, and I have a feeling that more are to come, which is why I posted

At my school, an A- is a 3.6.

I'm pretty sure that colleges know what grading scale your school uses and look at your transcript in context.

Good point, gutter.

And secret chords, two A-s won't "screw your chances". Really.

Colleges look at transcript - your grades in context of your school - more than "GPA" anyways, since that differs so vastly from school to school.

If you think your school's GPA system is weird. My school's is out of 9.0.

Your grading system isn't that different from most school's.... Colleges won't be like, "Oh! Poor kid--his school's so strange and harsh on A-'s!!"

yeah, I got to a really competitive school and the top gpa from last year's graduating class was right around 4.75...that person ended up going to harvard (and the next 10-20 to somewhat similar ivy type schools)...so, you're fine
