<p>SDSU e-mailed me and basically said, " All students who need General Chemistry as part of their academic requirements must either take a difficult entrance examination, or pass Introduction to General Chemistry (CHEM 100). We teach you the language and mathematics of Chemistry, and prepare you for our rigorous General Chemistry (CHEM 200). This class will be offered during part of San Diego State University summer session T1. Passing this course with a grade of "C" or better will allow registration in General Chemistry, (CHEM 200) in the fall 2014 term."</p>
<p>Apparently I'll be an entire semester behind if I don't take the summer class or pass this "difficult exam". Is this something they've done before or what? Also is it worth it? The program runs from June 16 to August 15.</p>

<p>So what this email is basically saying is that in order to be able to take CHEM200 you have to either pass an entrance exam or take CHEM 100 and pass with a C.</p>
<p>CHEM200 is notorious among science and engineering students as being a weed-out class and requires hours and hours of work. This will probably be one of your hardest class as a freshman. If you don’t have a solid chemistry background I would recommend taking CHEM100 first (Which many people end up doing). </p>
<p>So you think taking the summer course is a better option than just taking Chem 100 when I start college with my other classes?</p>
<p>Taking CHEM 100 during the summer is a good idea if you want to stay on track and graduate in four years and want more interaction with the professor. Just remember that summer classes are very fast paced compared to full semester classes and it might be harder to keep up with. </p>
<p>I wonder - wouldn’t the course also be beneficial to get a feel for university? In truth I have no idea what to expect from college yet, so I feel like taking the course will ready me for my freshman year.</p>
<p>Yes, taking the class over summer will help you with regards to familiarizing yourself with the campus as well as getting a feel for how college courses are structured. </p>
