Weird Study Related Habits Anyone?

Hey guys,

Well, i just bored studying for the SAT and got around to thinking about my weird/stupid/humorous study habits that i have.

Weird Habit # 1:
Absolutely CANNOT study if it is quiet. Totally opposite from other people. If it is too quiet, i will actually ask someone in our house to make some light noise. If there is no one, usually useless ramblings of CNN in the background does the trick. Music does not quite do it for me because i need something i am not too fond of(news). That way, i try hard to concentrate on the SAT. Silence usually enables my brain to wonder off thinking about what's for dinner.

Weird Habit # 2:
This is not so much weird as it is annoying. In a day of maybe two hours of studying, i will have done a SAT question at five or six different places inside my house. For some reason, every thirty minutes of so, i get up and change my study location and just go sit/lie down somewhere else. You will never find me studying at the same place for more than half an hour. Guess it helps me focus?

So, i am hoping i am not the only odd 'studyer' out there. If you have any kind of different/original study habits, feel free to share. Does it work? Maybe some of our normal/boring 'studyers' can pick them up too. I also apparently like to make up words. Studyers!

Thanks! Feel free to comment!

lol interesting post indeed!

Umm, i do not really have that many weird habits but i will not start studying until it turns exactly a full hour... like 3 or 4.. i never start at 2:23. I do not know why.. i guess i like to keep track of my time and its easier when you start at an 'integer hour'

I don't know about "weird" here, but my habits could probably just be summed up as lazy.

For instance, I am totally unable to study, even if I know it's best for me, if I'm bored by the subject. Honestly. I've never studied for something I didn't like.

Another thing: I really love language. My school only offers Spanish (yep), and the community college I could take other courses at is definitely out of the way. Anyhow, if I should be studying for, say, a science class, and I'm in the studying "mood," it's very easy for me to start studying something else, say, Spanish... Not for credit or anything, but just because I really like Spanish.

I hate how undisciplined I am sometimes. :[

Also, it has to be perfectly quiet for me to study. OR I can have headphones on... But I also like to be alone. I can't study if my door is open or if someone is around. Some of my "best" studying takes place at 3 AM because then everyone in my house is asleep.

I like this thread idea.
Whenever I'm working on math (this doesn't count for anything where I need to read words lol) metal/heavy rock music played LOUD helps to stimulate my thought processes. Also, when doing math, I understand it better if I have a wall to write on and I'm standing which means in school a whiteboard or chalkboard. However, since I don't have either at home, I tape paper to one wall of my room and use whiteboard markers on that...while the headbanging music plays on my iHome, ha.

Wow. My study habits kind of sound like Shad's.

I have to have some noise in the background. (And not music b/c I get distracted and dance.) I normally put it on VH1 (Top 40? Blah Blahs, I love the 80s, something boring).

I like to study at friends houses and totally ignore them. But I hate when they leave the room even though I don't talk to them or acknowledge their presense. And not study together b/c last year I had AP Calc AB and they had Algebra 2. lol

I like to study on the floor. But not the carpet. Something hard, ceramic tile, marble, anywhere cold or outside in the grass or trampoline (at friends house).

haha, msneicirenee, i am glad i am not the only one who does that. Anyway, i am sure more people have other habits. Lets go people!

Haha I'm similar to Shad's also. I change my location every 45 minutes. I work in the kitchen, the dining room, etc.

I can't study unless I'm eating snacks at the same time. It has to be something sweet.

I usually study early in the morning like 9:00ish. When it hits noon I'm done for the day....I usually study at 5:00 in the evening also (that's when I eat snacks) til like 6:00. Don't get much done though.

Cannot eat snacks... if i start thinking bout food, studying is out of my mind for good! lol, once i tried studying while playing ps 3 .. did not work.

I can't study for more than 15 minutes at a time unless I'm studying last minute for a huge exam.
I also need music to study but it has to be music I've listened to tons of times before and know all the words to. That way I can tune it out and won't be distracted by it. A little backwards, yes, but it works!

When I study alone, I talk to myself aloud. I talk through math problems, and I'll ask myself questions. ("Bacon's Rebellion has always confused me. What was it about?") lol

LMAO. my life encompasses all of these habits. ;)
plus, i had to read about Bacon's Rebellion ^^ like 3 times before i absorbed it :D

Oddly enough, foreign pop music while studying does the trick. It doesn't matter what language, as long as it's not English... (though I do go through phases...right now I'm in the Arab phase heh) :)

wow I just took AP US and I know the term...ugh I don't remember, now I have to look that up...

I'm very big on memory recall.
I try to use the same pen for each class; eat the same food before a test as I did when studying; reenact usual daily routine during the disruptive finals period.

^ I lose pens so frequently... :(

I don't study, but if I ever do (happens in semester finals only), I'm exactly like you - can't study for more than 20 minutes straight tops, and need music.

Why is this one of the featured discussions? It's dead boring.

I don't really study... I mean, I was in 8th grade last year, the only real studying I did was stuff from September in June for finals... That'll change this year, especially with Honors Bio and English. Bio is supposed to be a *****... But my mom's a AP biology teacher, she'll be teaching me AP bio at the same time as honors, so I can get an AP class really early.
But any way, study habits...

I sit on my bed and read. I read aloud, in my head, I sing, I talk. I like to make noise or movement. I swing my legs and lie on my stomach, or tap out the beat that's playing on my radio.

I study at all times of the day. Early in the morning before school starts for a test, during a boring class for my next class, after school before sports, after sports, after dinner, at midnight. But always in my room. I hear people talk about their parents making them study at the table or do homework... My mom honestly doesn't care, and I hate people being around me or moving or making too much noise. In class, it has to be dead silent for me to really, really concentrate on subjects I don't like.
I'm so random, though. If it's really imperative that I study now and right now, then I can do it any where.

Edit: MelancholyDane. you are very, very negative. Don't post unless you have something to add or are going to "hijack the thread" or whatever... Just coming on here, reading, and posting about how effing boring it is is wasting your time and ours.

I get hungry around when I want to study, but hate doing both simultaneously. As such, I like to eat and continuously put off the studying until I'm too tired to do anything.

haha, I actually agree with you on this one here...we have these "study habits" topics so frequently, it's annoying.
