Here on CC people remark that there is an "east coast bias" against the ACT. Is this true do you favor SAT vs ACT?

Both of my kids have been 7th grade talent search kids. Do you at JHU know if someone is in your database or is it so old that it doesn't matter?

AICE vs IB vs AP---Are these programs ranked in anyway? IB and AICE start in 9th grade, overall are more challenging. Are these students given any bonus/gold stars/added weighting?

(AICE for those on CC is the British A levels through University of Cambridge)
In the US six schools use this program, 1 in Silver Spring, 2 in NOVA and 3 in Florida.

I sent in my application and the application fee both online and both on time. However, I did not feel comfortable in senting my essays online; would it be OK if I sent them through mail? And also, do I sent them to the same mailing address (i.e. "undergraduate admissions office/140 garland ave...) Thank you so much!

I think the "east coast" bias against the ACT stems more from most students on the two coasts take the SAT whereas the middle of the country (specifically the Midwest) take the ACT. Most schools, like JHU have absolutely no preference of ACT versus SAT -- in fact we have a handy-dandy chart that will convert SAT scores to ACT, and vice versa.

The CTY (Center for Talented Youth) databases are separate from the prospect databases of the JHU Office of Undegraduate Admissions database. To add your children to the JHU mailing list, fill out this form: http://apply.jhu.edu/contact/webinquiry.html

Great question about AICE v. IB v. AP. As far as "bonus points" or added weighting no. All these programs are considered the most rigorous offered in high schools and that is what is most important. Personally though, and most Admissions counselors would agree, AICE and IB programs are stronger programs. In the end though, the ad vice is to take and be successful in the most rigorous curriculum your school offers.

drinkingmilk..., Yes you may also submit your essays through the mail. Send them as soon as possible with a note attached (include full name and birth date) and yes use the 140 Garland Hall address.

I'm going to close this thread to avoid it getting bogged down with specific questions. Please ask questions in the JHU forum in their own threads. Please don't hijack threads - if a thread is about how to apply for financial aid, for example, please don't ask about campus housing - start a new thread. (See above for more hijack examples. ;)) And, out of respect for the time of our College Rep members, please don't post threads with titles like, "Daniel - please answer me ASAP". Our College Rep members have other real-life responsibilities, and we don't want them bogged down with personal appeals. Thanks!
